http://www.engineparts.com/publications/CL77-3-402.pdf bearing diagnosis chart pdf seems the wear we see on the bigend shells getting less worn near the joins is a perfectly normal bearing pattern still dont trust the acl bearings anymore than i used to same old shit locating tangs on the bearing shells dont fit the conrod grooves tight

Considering how many gearboxes and diffs that motor has lunched those shells werent all that bad really - how long had they been in there?

Can't say much about the gulf western oil other than i used it as running in oil in the ministock motor recently cos it was dirt cheap and was gonna get dumped fairly quickly. Personally i'm a fan of Castrol Magnatec. A few years ago i did the top end on a customers MR2 turbo, the guy had had it since it had 5000kms on the clock and had changed the oil/filter religously every 5000kms with Magnatec, that thing low flew all the time - he needed a pilots licence for it ;) when the headgasket went it had a bit over 200,000kms on it and NO bore wear at all, still had hone marks all the way up and the turbo had almost no slop in it when i had a feel of it - i know those 3S-GTE motors are pretty bulletproof but the way that thing got thrashed was ridiculous - practically every shift was on the limiter.

Is the Commodore boosting again yet?

those bearings were in there for 250000 odd KM and the oil filter looked like stock GM one and hasnt been changed in a while by the looks and the car we bought with wire out the tyres and serious gravel rash damage under the car so been abused. maybe 1000 or so of brutal boosted mayhem as well i reckon its got another 100000km in it if we dont spit a rod.should be running tomorrow bit the bullet and shes gulf western powered again havnt killed one yet on it so its in there for at least the run in if you can call 200km of gentle no boost driving a run in LOL.then its time to drop the exhaust feed it pure avgas and go out to tweak the tune to suit and then park it for a few weeks untill the drags.oh yeah have to bolt on the loaner yella terra rockers before tuning as well.hopefully it has the goods to go 10's in march then we may rush a cage in it and some heads and go back in april with more power .depends if the T70 will physically blow anymore air in i think its getting close to maxed out

haha i told the guy you buy the springs and valves and use mine for a while then give them back to me LOL but he would be keen on buying a set of them when you get keen on doing more .they reckon a good bowl job and general tidy up can result in 30% more flow ide hate to know how much extra mine flow LOL.on the turbo engines the exhaust ports where its at they say in my bible  .10's we need a cage so if we can do it in march we will need more power for april to drag the extra weight of the cage :hmm:
