exactly and there is no off the shelf conversion kit for the v6 as far as my research so I expect the costs and "cunt of a job" factor to be high.
Easy conversion, try it on a HQ, I had to make unbelievable bigger, stuff around and move shifters forward, install 2peice tail shaft, convert speedo to electronic, adapt clutch pedals etc etc. on a VN V8 it's a bolt in job so I'd say if you can get an adaptor or bellhousing your there. T-56 come up cheap every now and again, I paid $1200 for mine and by the time it's and finished it was about 3 grand

Biggest turn off on t56 for me is weight.

For conversion stuff I always sent my business with dellow conversions.
I think Dellow do a bellhousing, but you have to stay with stock clutch size (from memory). At any rate, T56 is popular with the L67 guys but I'm sticking with T5!

Biggest issue for the v6 is input shaft length. It's about 100 mm longer than any other box so lots of bugger img about with custom this custom that. If it was me I'd just get the ppg gear set. No stuffing around and bonus straight cut gear noise and more efficient power transmission compared to helical gears and other larger boxes like tko, t56 etc since there are more losses associated with wider and finer gears.

mate of mine (known for being stingy) needed a cheap v8 t5 box..... got a machinist to cut off the front of a v8 input shaft and turn it down on the end in the lathe. then cut off the rear of a v6 input shaft and drill a hole in the end. so both peices joined together to with a nice tight interference fit and welded it together. this became an input shaft that would work on a v8 clutch but with v6 gearbox internals. then all of the v6 internals went into the case of the fucked v8 T5 (the case is different). this was about 5 years ago and the box still going strong today behind a worked v8. lol. proves t5's can handle it, if you look after them and dont button clutch it.

I still think my old VN V6 T5 was the best car to drive (from all the various model Commodores I've owned), my Senator ain't bad but the V6 with T5 was much more off a drivers car. A manual in the Senator would be killer

That old T5 took a lot of abuse and was still going strong the last time I drove it.
V8 T5 boxes are getting hard to come by and very expensive when do pop up, would almost be cheaper to do a T56 conversion with the V8.

A mate of mine one had a T5 from an EA Falcon 6 cylinder brought in a kit From Dellow for an old Commodore. Handled a mild 308 no worries.
I have a TKO in my car. Fantastic box but you do pay for them.

you beat the shit out of T5 and they last. Never killed one as of yet.
my old T5 in the vacationer got beaten like you wouldn't believe. Sounded just like a stage 3 auto when I drove it lol.
Has 601,000km and still went like a champ once fully warmed up.

there is a certain amount of horsepower they cant handle... supercharged 304 10psi 450ish horsepower, broke two t5's back to back in the middle of third gear pull... stripped the gear both times (which is right in the middle of the shaft) theory is it bent the shaft or housing enough to cause the gears to lose mesh and strip. both of these boxes were falcon t5's on a dellow trimatic pattern block > falcon t5 bellhousing. falcon t5's are the only ones ive seen break. im highly suspicous that they arent as strong as the commodore ones. anyone know anything about this?

Blown cars are hardest on gearboxes, it's like anything though, the weakest point is always the first to give up. I suspect that T5's got ther bad rep in the burnout circles, where they are up rating clutches and abusing the driveline off the line. I really like the t5 for its nice direct shifts and there are not too many mass produced boxes (you can buy for $100 a pop) that can take the power they take and are as light.
