That and driver side mount bosses to clear the extractors. The tricky part is jigging off the original sump. None I have equipment or tools for. I use this guy and he is precise and always done the job in a timely manner. But the business has been inundated with work during the moving process so heaps of jobs have been held back for months.

When you say jigging off the original sump, do you mean in terms of getting the height right so the oil marks on the dip stick will be in the correct positions?

Yes but thats only part of it. The machining of the receptical depth and angle needs to be virtually spot on in order for the tube to fit in and bolt up while seating the O ring nicely and measuring the oil level correctly. Its a bit of a 2 step process to gt best accuracy. Jig up for the initial hole drilling for the bar stock. get that welded in and jig it up again for final machining to copy over from the original sump.

I think you may be over complicating it. The dipstick tube can be bent. It is crucial that the height of the receptacle is correct, but you could measure that, draw it up, get it made and then weld it. The rest can be easily done later.

yeah probably need a tweak anyway but be shit if I have to start elongating the hole on the freshly plated tube. Its also critical I get the location right in the sump as the tube is goes between the belt and harmonic balancer. I recall I only have few mm side to side room before the tube is either hitting stuff, too deep or too shallow.

I could but depth depends on the "swing" of the tube and those series 2 vp tubes are rare as and I only have the one. So I have supplied him with the early style tube just for receptical dimensions and the actual late sump to jig off.

Machinist will hate to try and mount the engine to his mill  He does everything vlad spec too. Well thats expected when you were hand machining turbines for the air force before CNC existed and have to do it to 1/10th of 1/1000th of 1" tolerance lol
