If you read into these they are speed sensitive, most people seem to buy a 'magic box' that allows manual control of the output effort, The astra pumps are also speed sensitive, most people wire them so as they are always on and have no problems (other than major current consumption at idle...) I wonder if I could use a flex output from 11P to control this???

Do you no what kind of signal it wants? On tbe barina is from the speed sensor?
The VR VS Commodores has an output from the BCM for there speed sensitive steering.

No, don't have a speed signal atm, but easy to add - getrag box

the columns seem to have their own ECU that gets info via CAN from the PCM...

CAN doesn't sound fun to me. These box's people run does it vary the speed of the motor still or just leave it at a fixed speed?

from what I have read it is a case of selecting the required output effort you want and thats it...

my uncle recently got one of these installed into a hill climb mini, it has a Honda motor and front control arms and such, and then like 9inch slicks .... it was a right pig to drive before the electric steering, now its like its on ice its that light

it has a dial on the dash to allow them to dial in how light it is, from what I can see just looks like a potentiometer to adjust it. they did say that if they have speedo into it they could have speed sensitivity, but for their needs not worth the effort, they just adjust the dial to suit tight tracks or faster bigger tracks and that's it ....

I don't really know the requirements of them electrically but from what I've seen they don't use massive power wires or anything so can't be too much.

My holden cruze has electric steering, its awesome, light as a feather in carparks then goes heavier on the freeway etc to slow down twitchiness! .... I was a bit apprehensive when I first heard of electric power steering, but after 70,000kms I've got nothing negative to say about it.

Cool. The Barina one looke better and maybe lighter as well.
Reckon you could work the mounting for the column?

Just going by the pictures I'd rather the Barina one. Hopefully it's practical.
