try checking the com settings in windows ??
been a while since i've used winaldl memory is a bit sketchy :S

If its a circuit thats found online then it sometimes needs a 4k7 pullup resistor on the data line to get the PC serial port to recognise the data.

Should be ok, check the transistor pins are wired correctly. The CEL will always flash with data when the 10k resistor is connected to the diagnostic request line.

I still have fun and games sometimes getting my lappy reading. with all cables hooked up scroll through the com ports on winaldl till one says ok then shut winaldl down - this resets the comport next time you open it up then with the car turned on reopen winadl - sounds longwinded i know but it works for me
if only i could keep it strapped in at the trackBuild it, Race it, Break/Bend it ; Repeat.

I had another crack at logging with ALDL, still no luck, even made another cable to make sure.
