Connection is pretty much instant. I think the first thing is going to have to be finding out what the chip is programmed with, got an EPROM programmer you can read it with?. If its a VN/VP program then you wont be able to log it or use the flashtool to read it. If its a VR/VS program then you will be able to log it and use the flashtool to read it (just wont be able to write). It wont be a VT program on the 808, will most likely be either VN/VP with 160 baud ALDL or VR/VS with 8192 baud - could be an aftermarket bin but these normally have some security chips with them. With no window it sounds like an EEPROM or flash chip so could be programmed with anything. If you can get the type it may help. With the LEDs not staying on it does sound like its got 8192 baud.

Have a read of this too, might confirm your TP setup. You must select RS232 echo on the USB boards .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopi ... =10&t=2223

Gday, The info on data logging i was following while trying to connect, found quite helpfull, the rs232 echo i tried both on and off, ill go through again to see what ive missed. Not got a eprom programmer yet, in the process of. Also as an afterthought, more for testing/attempting to read chip ect, if the ecu is not in the vehicle, i would think its possible to connect to ecu without a proper test bench setup?, would assume 12V/earth would need to be run into the main feeds and also the ignition on wires?

Just had an A-Haa moment, for the VN/VP eproms to be 8192 baud capable, they would use a 8192 baud capable memcal, (and not just the rs232 comms board) as its the memcal that uses the data in the bin. By the sound of it TP5 is mainly 8192 baud, so to log a 160 baud VN/VP would need to use something like WinALDL? ... or read chip, erase and re-burn with a different memcal. Will have another crack and get the info off the chip to see what it is.
A few more pieces and the puzzle becomes clearer. :D
