From what I've read there a Hall effect sensor and output a square wave. Not sure if there is a gm ignition module that uses this type of signal as the reluctor type dizzy has a different type of signal. The smarter electrical guys on here will have better information so I'd wait and see what they respond with.

v8 commodore module will work with hall effect i believe.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Yeah thats the product i was looking at. They sell them on ebay specifically for the 3f points distributors. But need to do a bit more research.
Well i have got past my big bills now. Wel except christmas. So trying to gather parts again.
regarding turbo im wondering whether or not to go with the standard toyota CT26 turbo i think it is off the diesel engine or a T3 turbo off a vl turbo.
Any sugestions on turbo size?

Will need to have a play with that ignitor. It does mean having to use the more expensive V8 module instead of a reluctor and camira module. Whats the 3F-E dizzy like in terms of triggering?
A CT26 is pretty small on a 3F, its ok on diesel but small on a 4 liter petrol engine.

for another dizzy option, can you find a similar denso dizzy and swap the innards ? probably from a later M engine. i've had some success doing the same with bosch dizzies. have you slipped your dizzy out (or used a spare.) and taken some measurements ? is it close dimensions wise to a holden, falcon or some other toyota dizzy ? maybe with a little machining they'll fit.
or a combo of a crank pickup and use the dizzy to distribute the spark ? you'd need 3 metal lumps or slots in the balancer. you could even do it on the flywheel and use the hole where you check the timing to mount the sensor.

Knowing Toyota's love of raiding the parts bin, I had a look a while ago when this topic first came up to see if there were any electronic distributors from other toyotas that looked similar, but couldn't find anything.briney wrote:for another dizzy option, can you find a similar denso dizzy and swap the innards ? probably from a later M engine. i've had some success doing the same with bosch dizzies. have you slipped your dizzy out (or used a spare.) and taken some measurements ? is it close dimensions wise to a holden, falcon or some other toyota dizzy ? maybe with a little machining they'll fit.
I saw a reference somewhere to being able to fit the guts of a Corona or early supra dizzy into the 3F's housing, but nothing specific like year models or anything.
Could you feed the points signal to the camira ignition module through something like a 600 ohm 1:1 isolation transformer + zener limiter, to produce a reluctor-like waveform?

Re: 3F Carby Landcruiser Delco 808
I only have the 3f dizzy not the 3fe. I havent pulled the dizzy out yet either. But im hoping ive just sourced a 3fe dizzy. If i have i will just use the camira module with that one.
regarding turbo choice. I mainly just want low down torque. This car doesnt rev beyond 5000rpm (Well i wont take it past that as they dont like it). So i want a turbo that will kick in around 1400rpm to 4000rpm. People use GT3582 on 4L fords but i dont want to rev that much. Im thinking i could get away with something like the T3 or T3/T4 hi flowed turbo off a vl turbo.
I'll see how I go. But I have a feeling this ignition setup is going to be a pain in the ass.
Oh and just one other thing. Anyone looked much into intake manifold / plenum design? My main query is plenum size for my 4L engine. People say use something around 4-5L of volume in the plenum. Which i think would make it rather huge with my current design. Any feedback appreciated.

Re: 3F Carby Landcruiser Delco 808
well i can tell you that on a stock commodore V6 (3.8L) a GT35 comes on boost about 1900rpm, so if anything the GT35 may be slightly too big for what you want, but then that is with a larger exhaust housing, there are ones on ebay with i think .63 ? exhaust housing which will probably give you the earlier spool you are looking for.
