this is a road car not a race car. refinement is the name of the game. I'm not going to the extent of having the engine balanced so its staying in there.

If it was an ecotec I would take it out as they have less reciprocating mass thus the primary harmonic imbalance should be less. Most people don't notice on a ecotec. pre ecotec I haven't seen anyone agree on the results so I am not risking it.

just fixing the chain and replacing the gears for the hell of it should make it quiet as a spider (mice make noises, so I am not using that saying)

I drove a series 1 VN for years, the best it ever ran was without the balance shaft, a powerbond race harmonic balancer and new standard engine and trans mounts.

I still think fitting the race balancer was the single biggest improvement.

yeah thats a vn 1 though, them compared with VR is like tractor vs a lexus.

The VR is already very smooth. Just a slight gear lash/timing chain rattle. Since I will replace the timing set, few minor service procedures for the balance shaft isn't an issue.

this engine will be getting powerbond as well. imagine how smooth it will be then lol
