Its actually only the green solder mask under the conformal coating that lifts/bubbles/wrinkles. The copper underneath is still perfect. It was very common in the 80s on all sorts of electrical items until the solder mask process changed.delcowizzid wrote:the old 808's the conformal coating shrinks and takes the tracks up with it.

just looking at it now, those bubbles are just solid solder. Isn't that just from the wave soldering process?

The tinning of the tracks prior to the mask is not perfectly smooth, the mask gets applied which intriduces some air combined with the slightly rough tinning it looks really wrinkly. The process changed to fix it.

Aha now I know what your talking about. MAGNA. Whew what a lemon on all fronts. The main problem was in the alternator wiring. They released a wiring loom upgrade to fix the problem of the output voltage going too high and it not only took out the ECU but the digital dash at some expense to the owner. I think I still have the original paperwork here somewhere. How criminal to let it happen without a recall.
