Did anyone find a solution to the usb 3 problem my laptop only has usb 3 ports

I think you need to be more specific, the FTDI interface chip does work on USB3, but there are likely some different issues on different machines. One such issue is that older motherboards use chipsets which did not include usb3, and manufacturers added 3rd party USB3 chips which require different drivers. If the USB3 ports work for other devices, then this is not your problem.
Check in the device manager and see if the FTDI interface is coming up when you plug it in, and check if its appearing as a com port. There may be other drivers on your system which have left some configuration laying around that are not causing the FTDI driver to load as a virtual com port (VCP).
For the machines that are not working - is it s fresh Windows 10 install, or an update from an older relase?
FTDI state a number of issues around USB3 support in windows 7 but also state that windows 8 and newer when using microsoft USB3 drivers things work as expected. The attached note is rather dry reading but has the technical details.
