for me...
386DX, 486DX55, AM486DX4-100, 586, Pentium 133, Pentium II cant remember.. P4 2.8Ghz with a specific core which I cant remember plus Abit IC7-MAX3 which had its own shroud over the CPU mosfets. That was one amazing overclocker. Laptops since then.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
I never had issues with any realtek on board sound, had heaps of dramas with later creative and those auzentech sound cards, those were terrible. Nothing hardware wise just terrible drivers. They always claimed to have fixed issues with new driver release but problems were worse lol. I gave up with add in sound cards more than 10 years ago.ejukated wrote:I gotta say whilst the Realtek AC97 onboard had surround sound etc, it had a horrendous buzzing and the quality wasn't as good as my Creative Live 128 that I installed in a PCI slot. After that era tho I pretty much changed to laptops so it was just whatever camevlad01 wrote:ahh the good old sound blaster. Remember the days of ultra realistic EAX effects? and when they actually worked pre win xp and we hadn't had working EAX since lol.
Creative went to shit after the release of xp and were overtaken by the peasant class AC97 by realtek in the compatibility, quality and driver support
The newer realtek ALC880 and Asus's own HD audio are pretty good. There was also my last motherboard with an Analogue devices sound card which worked great! that was the M3N HT Deluxe Asus board, Top of the line AMD board at the time and I do believe I was the first or at least one of first in Oz with one.
The only built in sound card I had problems with was on a old top of the line MSI intel board for core2 quad CPUs. had driver issues and then the sound died altogether, yep you guessed it creative sound blaster

ha
i'm quite ofay with the ALCxxx --> i build hackintoshes so am versed in getting the bastards working with different kexts.
anyone remember gravis ultrasound? ie: GUS?
and the hassle we used to have getting as much of that 640KB 'free' - ejukated i think you touched on the 'EMS' issues.
VSHOCD - i never travelled the AMD route with CPUs.....just GPUs i ditched nvidia years ago for 3 screen fun
nonetheless they are a very capable socket and not overpriced like intel.
my current units are HP XW8600 and XW6600 with quad core xeons and 16/32GB of ram. built with OSX. the gaming is an old i5 760 with r9-280 /ssd.
no but i think we did at work back then.Did anybody have one of the early Pentium chips that had the fault which caused calculation errors?

Re: Vlad's rides thread
I had a few radeons back in the day, I ditched them due to over heating issues and poor performance in my choice of games, some driver issues too.
All of the nvidia cards I have had is 6600GT, 9800GTX in SLI which both died a year later due to a known issue because of nvidia's first gen to use lead free bump connects, they were brittle so thermal cycles caused the bumps to crack. They send me new cards for nothing, they where the same chip GTS250 when the 200 series cam out, Added another one later on for 3 way SLI and only 2 weeks ago bought my mates 980GTX with water block to replace my current setup.
The 980GTX is freaking boss! doesn't get over 33c max load plumbed in series with the CPU running on a 12 year old fanless water cooling system. It runs everything I got on max and the slowest aI get is about 85 FPS and in UT2004 I get as high as 2600FPS, yes that is correct 2600
I had radeon 9200 and had a freebee X850, both rubbish, overheated BSOD, black screen etc. The mate who sold me the 980 had an R9? or something like that before, went alright but used to almost boil the coolant in his setup, ran very hot so swapped for the 980, now has the 1080 and holy shit its twice the speed in most games as the 980 and uses less power and have less processing cores.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
I always get those 2 mixed up. SIMM just refers to the overall package design not the actual ram. According to that they are FPRAM the old 1 meg sticks

What about plain old DIL RAM chips in banks of 9? Or when a 16K static RAM card was the size of an A4 sheet of paper?psyolent wrote:ever see SIPPs vshocd. now they were trippy.
