Re: My Delcoed Rides
minor update for the moment, got the short motor assembled yesterday, just need to get my head mods finished then it'll be ready to go on!!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: My Delcoed Rides
well major developments over night!
went to re-torque my head yesterday arvo and was sus on my torque wrench, it hadn't clicked but i knew i had got way past how much other bolts went to before clicking....
so i backed the bolt out and it looked a bit dodgy in the threads so i got another one i had and put it in, sure enough same thing, so i got my mates torque wrench and i couldn't even get it to 50ft lb so i said some choice words and decided i had to remove the head to properly inspect the thread in the block and as it turns out its stuffed, so helicoil time on a few bolt holes it seems (not what i wanted to have to do!)
so anyways while i had the head off i was just looking at stuff and noticed there was a very small mark in the bore of cyl #1 .... this was the only one i had dummied up the rocker gear to check valve lift etc .... further inspection has revealed this is a mark from my nice new large inlet valve
NOT HAPPY JAN!
the up side to it is i found out before any damage was done and due to having to strip the pistons and crank for the helicoiling i will also be able to releave the block with a die grinder before putting it all back together!
i told my wife and she said "oh well you'll have fun pulling it all apart and putting it all back together!

Re: My Delcoed Rides
yeah it is in a way, cause i reckon if i had have run it with the valve hitting it probably would have destroyed something

Sort of job best done with no beer and no one watching.
One slip with the die grinder and its all over.

Re: My Delcoed Rides
yeah your not wrong mate!
heres the mark from the exhaust valve, compared to the inlet, only just hitting
and the inlet as you can see has left more of a mark
and this is the view from the bottom of the block looking down at the head .....
judging by the depth of the marks it should be no problems to relieve the block well before the top ring area.

Re: My Delcoed Rides
Not much in it ,about half a bees dick.
Do you think you might be able to turn/machine the valve head down 10 thou instead maybe .
