May 2025 update, after also running the Gorst coils on a daily for 4 years straight had no issues.

The son's speedway car had a coil failure on the weekend, pulled the Gorst coils off the old daily and ran with them, no drivability issues but did notice that the electricity seems to be leaking
After going on the hunt last night for others it seems that Gorst coils are no longer?

Has anyone tried NGK ones? I suggested them to my nephew and he's had them for about a year or maybe 18 months, he killed about 3 sets of genuine prior, used and new over a couple of years. So far so good. The thing I like about the NGK is they are water proof in the installed condition.

The posts and body are all moulded as one piece, not the two most brand including genuine do. (the parting line around the base of the post), so when water gets on them, they don't die instantly, not at all in fact as it should be.

Long term, no idea if they are good, if the rep of their plugs and O2 sensors are anything to go by, probably not that long but so far better than Delphi for sure.

Also the terminals are brass and not just tinned steel, so no rust from the ozone and/or moisture if that happens to get in.

The Delphi coils are good, not as good as the old gorst coils but still good.

We've had multiple Delphi coils die in short order, same with their DFI modules.

I try to stick with good used for the DFI as they are AC Delco units, and so far I have seldom had to change the factory genuine AC Delco coils, most often from corroded terminals or accidental water damage.

But once my nephew's VS ran out of genuine old coils, the new replacement Delphi ones just died quick. We put the NGK ones on, and they have not failed since, but more data points than just his would be good to see.


I have some NOS AC Delco "L67" coils stashed for that stashed project car one day. So if I even run out of good used which I nearly have, mainly donating them to my nephew, I'll go the NGK.

I think I may have opted for the NGK because I couldn't find Gorst ones? This was maybe 18 months ago? I just wanted something that was more expensive and not the 10-15 bucks like most of the no names flooding ebay, NGK were the only ones that fit the apparent higher quality bracket.

No fails here that i know of yet, Split coil packs or outside shorting like in the picture above?

I have my test setup still here somewhere could update for NGK if someone sent me one.
