Excellent job. How many hours do you think you've spent doing the paint strip?

I have plenty of passion, I don't have much patience. My passion would lead me to give the job to someone who would have the patience to spend that much time doing it. Give me an engine and I'll work on it with exacting detail for as long as it takes, give me a car body and I'll pay someone to work on it with exacting detail.

I admire your effort.

Fair enough.

In other news. The Audigy 2 ZS arrived today ....annnddd it didn't want to work. Driver wouldn't install and after hours of research turns out prtty much most SB cards from early 2000s to mid 2000s had hardware ID corruption or some faults on their EPROMS and prevented the device from being detected during driver install as a creative device. Basically you get an error saying no creative devices on the system were found.

Even manually trying to force the drivers you'd still get a error saying drivers won't go on that device. Many hours later and heap of digging I find out as creative does, says bad luck for you customers, there is a 3rd party project for drivers to support a number of sound cards as well as supporting SB cards with this problem.

much much fucking around with these drivers as there was like 20 versions and overwhelming info and nothing clear to how you use it in differnt os or even which os was supported in which version. latest versions didn't work. Found in the readme the OS support list had from 98 to xp line-throughed, too lasy to just to say they weren't supported but gave me a clue to that older versions might support 2k. Went through the archive and trial and error found a version old enough to work but new enough to support my model SB0350.

The project is called kX project.

https://www.kxproject.com/

my particular driver I found to work (eventually) is this one. v3537

https://github.com/kxproject/kX-Audio-d ... 7-full.exe

So pretty happy I got sound now, just annoyed at the atrocious creative support. Every single creative product I have used has weird issues or complete lack of drivers or the drivers did not function. I think their hardware it good, just driver and software side is horrible.

Now all I need is a nice case and few bits to tidy up the build, oh and some old games.

yeah that was nothing unusual for creative way back then VSH.
a certain hardware vendor I deal with is utterly fucking shithouse at software /firmware for kit they produce. it took one of my guys doing the R&D and debugging for their shit code for them to release a fix to fix the problem. one which have plagued MANY of their existing customers.
more shit IT behaviours, disgusting industry.

Pretty chunky card really. Works well enough, good audio.

Also my spicer yoke finally arrived, ordered at x-mas, yes that long ago.
I compared against the stock Holden T5 one and like I thought going by what Tony? at astro said his shafts being build for these yoke's specs, that his main shafts could be too tight to fit some 28 spline yokes the stock t5 use. And yes the yoke was actually slightly loose on a stock main shaft confirming that a stock tailshaft will not fit the astro main shaft and indeed does need this yoke. The difference I recall he mentioned was a couple of thou but enough for a rattling loose yoke.

I compared the length of the spline part, its pretty much exactly like stock going by eye and the uni position is actually shorter (more forward) which works out well as a custom weld on adapter will be needed to step down from 2.5" tube (smallest available from spicer) to holdens weird 2.3" and no there isn't enough meat to machine down, I got the smallest ID yoke tube side I could get for this reason but it wasn't adequate so an billet adapter will be needed and the point I was getting to with the unit being more forward is it just makes the whole thing less adapter and retain more tube as the front half is already pretty short. Gotta put the balancing weights somewhere.
