hmmm ... i guess its 6 or one, half a dozen of the other hey hehehehe
but like you say, with stock rockers you have alot more choice on grinds ... and i dare say your high ratio rocker will sell well!

whats everyone's thoughts on having to get the crank balanced when deleting the balancer and fitting a double row chain? Obviously longevity over performance for me as id like to run this one till 300k like the last before doing it again.

very good idea.
The balancing will never fix what the balance shaft is there for, but balancing the engine to tightest specs does wonders for engine life and smoothness as factory balance is pretty crude.
I personally would leave the shaft alone, fit a rollmaster single row. They are far superior to the factory set anyway. balancing the rotating mass is worth doing anyway

yeh i wanted to ask the question

, atm i have to sum up alot of things and im at the point where im lucky to have what i do, so im nearly at 100% at just doing this up with what i have and doing a top end freshn up as i have most of the parts can get lifters cheap and just need LIM/Blower gaskets, then once the km's goes up a bit and personal things get better in years to come i would be able to afford more likely to pull it out and give it a good rebuild. My logic says if im going to the trouble of rebalancing the crank or replacing the chain then i may as well start replacing and rebuilding. Being a daily driver i was quite happy with how the N/A is so this is a bonus.

With it only having 180k on it there should hopefully plenty of life left in it as is with only 10psi/rockers? Have seen quite a few up around 300k mark still going ok that i know of with no work done. Appreciate the advice

if you do get to the point of a rebuild, I recommend that John Hamilton, friend of Mace. He will address the know issues, like that pesky oil problem some have.
He is the L67 expert of Australia.

ive removed so many balance shafts ive lost count never had an engine get rougher .its there to take out a harmonic around 1600-1800rpm.i take them out just to reduce rotating mass.weight matching all the rods and pistons and getting the crank balanced to match will make a world of difference but getting all the pistons pressed off and back on costs a little the parts you can weight match yourself at home with a cheap set of digital scales that measure in points of a gram.balancing the crank is cheap if you allready have all the rod and piston weights.myself ide probably flip it and pull some bearing caps to check bearing condition if they are all good just slide in some new shells and torque them all back up without even removing the crank or pistons like we did with the vb engine years ago.then fit a reground cam reuse the old lifters .check the heads for cracks they are bad for cracking fit some new gaskets and smash it in

was going to do rear main as i have it already and was going to buy a sump gasket and check the pickup/bottom end while its easy to do and cheap. Have to borrow the engine crane again and get ahold of a engine stand. Sell this gearbox and get a few $ to pay for the gaskets and stuff.
