I think that head cracking issue is a problem with the earlier models.

What I read on other forums seems to support this.

yeah think so, some say pre 98-99 engines.

L26 and L32 heads are suppose to be best.

i've never heard of a S/C V6 head cracking but had first hand experience with ALOT of VS/VT N/A motors with it.

I seen one engine which seemed to boil over after few min of running. I guess that was cracked head? was a vs

never heard of the issue in vx and vy, only vs. can't comment on vt though.

vy were the first to get the L26 engine bits.

well hard to say, if every other part of the cooling system is in good order and its boiling over then yeah its probably cracked heads. they usually crack between the valves as there is not alot of meat there.

you can usually see it in the coolant, goes all frothy and brown.

out of 6 motors my brother and i tested 1 head was good! (when i say tested i mean took the heads to an engine shop to check them)

hard to say though if its casting issues or just lack of care over their life etc, ie. overheat the motor and that makes it crack. i have lost count of the amount of times i've heard of commodores overheating and seizing then go fine after they cool down lol!!

On a heat wave day, I always seem a few VS commys broken down on the high way, odd VT here and there mixed in with brand new cars.

Cast iron should not crack easy, I say its either defective casting or something more sinister, tune?

there is even less meat there on the late engines coz they have bigger valves, but they does suffer the problem as far as I know.

Vy series 2 from August 03 had L32 crack rods. That was the only L32 component on the L67s. Different torque value too due to a unique rod bolt capture/set up to conventional L67 rods

ill have to check the engine number, just guessing cause the box was a 8HND

no, actually the VY NA engine got L26 parts. rods and heads with larger valves. I am not sure on the L32? was there a SC VY?

I got one, I measured up the valves and they are bigger than previous models, rods were also the L26 powder metal rods.

We actually got the L26 internals before the states officially introduced them as the series III engine. it was in introduced over there in late 04 early 05. We had them here in 03.

Although we never got the series III block. it appears Holden used L26 internals in series II block. but technically its a series III as the block was the same but internals were the only changes
