So finally got my fixture finished. I am real proud of this one :D

Also picked up my stuff from balancing. tailshaft came up good, was a bit out of balance.

The flywheel and pressure plate only needed a touch on the pressure plate and none on the flywheel. Those dellow flywheels must be damn accurate then. Considering it weighs like a billions times more the the flex plate giving it more room for error.

harmonic balancer was a shocker, miles out. something like 50g+ out.

see for yourself. Note the original one has the drillings on the complete opposite side to this newly balanced one so that shows how far out the new one was let alone the amount removed on it.

that's not because the balancer is supposed to offset a crank out of balance is it ?

it is, they run a counterweight as you can see (metal block on the left)

but the V6 are both internally and externally balanced from factory. So simply changing the flywheel or balancer isn't always just a straight swap.
When these guys balanced it, they copy the "out of balance" from the original and copy it to the new one. So these two balancers are now the same in balance but it was way off on the new one from manufacturing variation so hence why there are so many drill holes and on the other side from the factory location just to make it the same.

I mirror balanced them not neutral balance. they are 2 different things.

interestingly when I asked about how the v6 is balanced, they said for ecotec from his memory the factory is 36% and they balance them somewhere around 48%

He was a bit confused on this engine how I deleted the balance shaft. They almost only do ecotec engines, hardly anyone ever brings in pre ecotec engines to do work on. I had to explain how the pre ecotec was different lol.

a v6 book I was reading was saying if you run solid engine mounts you need to balance them to 50 % but rubber mounts is a lot less. apparently they shake to peices if you dont rebalance for solid mounts.

yeah they are balanced out of balance and move on two planes thats why the big saggy engine mounts so the engine can move sideways as well as up and down.if you balance to 50% the engine trys to lift out of the engine bay under acceleration.solid mounting there is no real worked out percentage you just have to balance it and on teardown check the condition of the main bearings to see where the load has been shifted at that balance percentage and correct as needed.stock is 33% if i remember right.

36% according to the balance guys.

In the next month I should have it all together and running so I am excited to see what it does without the balance shaft.

things on the list to get it fitted and running.

PS rack to be reco
PS pump to be fitted with new seals (getting another pump resealed as the original vr pump is noisy as! like a SC)
Gearbox general overhaul. (going in next week hopefully to an ex status engineering technician)
cruise control safety setup for clutch pedal
pacemakers
pickup a good 808 for modding
