97 5ltr VT code 49
Re: 97 5ltr VT code 49
Is it a very clean signal and where do you pick it up at , the ecu? Also be carefull the oscilloscope smooth functions are not active or you may miss small spikes.
Also a long shot maybe try earthing ecu case .
Also check all earths especially to body and engine.

Re: 97 5ltr VT code 49
i actually gained alot of performance running an ecotec on an 808 rather than the VS computer, so batch fire can't be too bad

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

The relation to HP was only a comparison between the VS 5ltr 165kw and the VT 5ltr 179kw its either the roller cam or the injection for the 14kw gain.
VL400 you may as well be speaking in Greek as it went about 10 feet over my head..lol... but thanks anyway the info will be passed on.
I am not into this electronic stuff myself so am leaving it up to the experts..I have told the local dealer that I am willing to let Daryl drive my car to GMH's Elizabeth plant
to let their brain trust nut it out. As long as its under the dealers trade plate (Just incase someone runs into the old girl)
I always had this dream of dropping a Injected 5ltr into my HQ GTS Monaro but seeing how complicated some of this stuff is I might be better of staying with my Holley powered 308.
Anyway as I said before, when I know whats going on, you will as well..lol
Cheers guys!

Don't let your VT fault take the fun out of putting your HQ Monaro into the 21st century.
I've done it to my HJ Coupe and I'm still having fun after 3+ years, plus the guys on here keep it interesting with new ideas and PLENTY of help
I "almost" got bored with the car being carbed,so this is my way of keeping the interest with a little difference along the way.

Well he has been and gone and has admitted defeat....The car has get the better of him...sigh!
Nothing left to do now but push the girl in the shed and think about her future...I could sell her but as she now owes me around $14,000. I dont think anyone would be willing to part with that for a 97 VT
let alone one thats not running properly..
Harrop manifold and carb may still be a option...Dont know..Just over the whole thing..
Cheers! Mark..

Damn what a pain!
Did you say it runs fine even when the CEL comes on and it falls back to MPI? If this is the case, maybe you could disconnect the cam sensor for consistancy, and stick a memcal in it that doesnt light the cel for those codes. MPI will still be better than carby, and maybe the easyest option you have.

Hi,
I'm from a workshop in NZ, we've been following your posts for a couple of months because we've had the exact same problem.
We've copied alot of your solutions and had also come up with no results.
What we ended up doing was getting a genuine second hand Holden distributor sent over from Aus, (instead of the 2 brand new after-market ones tried) and it fixed the problem instantly. No more codes. Has been running fine for 2 weeks.
Hope this may be of some help.
Go the All Blacks. Ha.
Cheers.

Re: 97 5ltr VT code 49
My original distributor is back in the car (Genuine Holden) and we hunted around for a new genuine cam/crank sensor and fitted it only to have the car run fine in the workshop but as soon as it went out for a test drive it threw the code again...The cars home and still in bits, computer laying on the floor engine covers on the back seat..drove it home and its only running on 7 cylinders so wether its a plug or something else I dont know. Dont want to even look at the thing its peeved me off that much...
I do a bit of wheeling and dealing and buy the odd car from salvage auctions from time to time and Im tempted in buying a whole 5 ltr auto VT thats been slammed in the rear get it running check for codes then swap the parts from the donor car to mine until I find what part is causing the problem...But if a expert can't nut out the problem what hope have I got...especially with no tech 2 to play with.
"Antus" The check light does not come on, you only notice the car has a slight miss when the code throws (Thats when its running on all eight)
Yes the check light is working... Your idea about leaving it as pulse injected may be a option ..Wondering if I could throw a VR computer and distributor in it...Would a VR distributor fit a roller VT?
Or as you said just dont run the cam sensor and have a chip made that would only run as pulse injected so deleteing the code 49 from the system completely...Hmmmm I do believe there is someone doing this in Adelaide I may have to make some calls...
Cheers Mark.

Re: 97 5ltr VT code 49
Hi,
We've been through everything you had, with it bringing up the same codes.
We did everything from swapping computers, running 2 computers at the same time, different coils, ignition modules, earthing straps, new distributors, plugs, leads etc etc etc.
We would get it to the stage where it would run fine while cold(in workshop) then go out for a drive, car would warm up, then start missing on one cylinder. Bringing up no check engine light. Put the scanner on the car, found fault 'cam/crank angle sensor intermittent'.
No matter what we did, it wouldn't go away. Plenty of oscilloscope readings. It would never miss on the same cylinder.
Oscilloscope reading from igniter to distributor with alot of interference. We had used 2 new after market distributors, then fitted a second hand genuine one from a good running car and it was fixed instantly.
Drove it for hours, no more codes. Oscilloscope readings were perfect again and no missing from engine. Checked for live data, cam/crank readings great.
The guy's had his car back for 2 weeks now and he still says it's running perfectly.

Just had a look on ebay .
The aftermarket dizzys for a vt are only $65 ,i cant imagine they would be very good quality at that price .
There is one genuine bosch vt dizzy that has never been used and has sat on the shelf for $250.
If it were me i would snap that bosch one up real quick and give it a go.
Ive got a genuine vt bosch dizzy myself ,but i dont want to sell it as its good for a test dizzy ,and i may want to use it on my 5.0lt one day.
Unfortunately you cant use a vr /vs computer as the vt uses the ecm to run the dash.
