My next option was going to be a full spool and was very tempted to get one.
A couple of mates are running spools for racing and complain about understeering into corners,and then chasing set ups with suspension.
Also the cost of $250-$300 for the spool sort of swayed me in spending a little more for the tru-trac,plus moving the car around gotta be easier than a spooled car. :lol:

VX.....I'm like you,just touched diffs at trade school (geez thats 25 years) and having a tackle at it with a bit of reading.
Just reading Holden service info,i've just found out that 3:07 and 3:45 side bearing shells in the adjuster caps are recessed approx 2mm deeper than the 3:08 caps.
With all the sh1t sitting on my bench,i've used my old 3:08 caps lol......its out with the caps and press the shells into the other caps. :lol:

yes i have to agree, pushing my spooled diff around with slicks is not easy when turning :P

Its handy if you have a lathe or a mini lathe in my case.
I used 3 bearings from a push bike,cant remeber if it was the headstem or crank bearings.
The width of whatever 2 balls need to fit inside the pipe you are doing.
Sometimes it helps if the balls are magnetised because those little buggers have a tendancy to just go anywhere :lol:
It works great and just some insurance to make you sleep better.

be fork (stem) bearings. crank ones are massive, besides my bmx has automotive type bearing like in an alternator for the crank.

Wish I had a lathe.

Yeah headstem for sure :D

Next up,the suspension.
I didn't know which way i was going to go on this.
Originally i was saying to myself-------this is only a play-sprint car and i'll fit some stiff lower springs and a good set of shocks/struts and be done with it.
BUT we all know handling IS everything and you can have all the power in the world but if it dont turn properly - why bother.
A pair of HSD coil overs came up for sale for $550.00 and i ummmed and ahhhhhed about them for a week or so.
I finally convinced myself (which isnt hard)that even a basic set of front gas stuts and lowered coils was pushing $300 + so it was a no brainer
and have the luxury of adjustable dampening,ride height and spring tension.

Fitted up easy and took a guess on the ride height.
On the ground it sits nice firm (no pic yet)
Next dilemma is the rear to sort out.....havent picked up a coilover for the rear as of yet.

LOL.....they say a picture tells a thousand stories. They are wrong!!

The scissor jack was for lifting the whole control arm,disc,caliper set up so i could line up the strut mount bolts to the knuckle.
There is some serious weight in them HSV Brakes and because of the lower ride height to almost over horizontal....i REALLY struggled to pull the assembly up with 1 hand
try and line up the bolt holes.
If it all let go it would have ripped the crap off the brake hose/pipe.(which has no mounts) due to non abs car and later caliper hoses with a different entry.
I think these hoses are trailer - c/dore caliper i had laying around.
The pissy ol' scissor jacks are very handy for fine tuning things to lift :thumbup:
Trust me.... i wanna be around for a few years more

hahaha fair enough, i have to admit i use scissor and bottle jacks when making exhaust systems etc to get everything layed out in place :)

With 2 days of celebrating and a funeral (a mates uncle),i finally had a chance to get some more work done...ie all the fiddly stuff.

I ordered a sticker kit off ebay as per CAMS regs.
My mate told me to choose a high number as entries with low numbers on some days double up (first in best dressed)....so i chose my birth year :thumbup:

Next up i had to make up the front and rear tow points and add the stickers.

Also had to fit bonnet pins,luckily the VT onwards have these nifty triangle points on the rad support....ready made for racing :thumbup:

Another requirement is a battery-engine cut-off accessible from the outside A pillar and inside (driver) ( i havent connected the battery wiring/cable yet)
The pull cable is from a boot release out of a statesman.
