Re: The Val
kind of like the apprentice telling the master ,but have you checked your earths are good, coil + and ecm power separated so as ecm not getting a voltage spike ,also have you put an oscilloscpe on reluctor and ecms rpm input from ign module

Re: The Val
Next step is to get a scope on it all and check it out - a dodgy earth is where I think the problem could be and will be checking it out more (found issues on the + side and have fixed them now). When we used to run just the camira module it had an occasional mid track misfire now with the CDI its worse - but without a good fuel supply its prob a mixture of both.

Re: The Val
Any day you can go to the track and get that many consistent runs without breaking anything is a bloody good day i reckon, looks like it'll be dipping into 9's before too long
Build it, Race it, Break/Bend it ; Repeat.

Re: The Val
Well we spent the last two days going over everything, changed heaps of the way the car is grounded (ignition system direct to battery, all ancillaries the same, ECU and all related hardware is direct to engine block on a single point).
And the other change was to try and convert to a crank trigger ...
The engine runs but has issues with getting a clean signal and meant timing was all over the place. I dont have any scope captures (forgot the usb drive
)but its clear something is not right with this setup as the dizzy reluctor still runs fine and timing is stable. Using antus' scope example ... https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopi ... =113&p=938 .. we are getting the same from the dizzy reluctor but from the new crank trigger there is a huge amount of free space between each pulse ie the pulse rise and fall is way way faster. The reference output (square wave) from the camira module to ECU while idling is over 2mS from the dizzy and under 400uS from the crank trigger. I think the crank slots are too narrow (4mm with a 500mm circumference), wider the slot the wider the pulse is so we will need to sort something out there. Am also not totally certain the balancer is actually steel, it looks like an alloy after machining it.
But the other issue is noise on the Ref signal from camira module to ECU, its far from what I would call a clean square wave. We get a reasonable pulse (occasional glitch mid pulse) but between pulses are seeing repeatable spikes of noise (not idenical but not totally random either). This is on the dizzy reluctor which has a clean looking reluctor signal - just like whats in antus' thread.
So if anyone has a scope and can check what the Ref pulse line looks like on a running engine that would be great
The saga continues...

Re: The Val
Are you sure the camira module is meant to work with that type of trigger system? When I did it, i needed the d1998a module but that was 6cyl.... Now I think about it, im not sure ive heard of that type of system running on a V8.

Re: The Val
In theory there is no reason it shouldnt work in terms of the pulses, 4 crank pulses per rev (so 8 pulses per engine cycle) vs 8 dizzy pulses per rev (and engine cycle) both give the same thing. There is no extra 10deg pulse like yours for sync and we still use the dizzy to distribute spark from the single coil - its just that the crank trigger should be more accurate as you remove all the play in the valve train. Each pulse occurs at ~10deg BTDC for cranking advance and then use the software ref angle to get the ECU commanded and actual timing correct. We can now also adjust the dizzy to get the post lining up with the rotor button at 35deg BTDC without changing base timing.
In theory its great, practice not so good

Re: The Val
i like the idea of being able to adjust the dizzy .... less chance of cross fire then ... having said that i haven't had an issue with my 202 dizzy cross firing yet!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: The Val
Will be testing the entire system by triggering the module using this ...
Its safe until about 3000RPM at which point the lack of balancing means it starts walking all over the place

maybe you need a wheel weigh on the wheel

Re: The Val
You would think that the duty cycle of the reference sqare wave to the ecu would be best set at 50%.If it were me i would have a bigger ramp leading up to the trigger point, as most modules triger on when the wave goes + and turn off when it goes neg.
