Would this be a recomended socket for these? Bit dearer than I expected. But the other end of the scale is 80c so guess it's same old story get what you pay for.

Yeah thats right, and its also the better quality machined type. Quality matters as they grip the pins tightly and make good reliable electrical contact. Low quality sockets and movement on the pins in a high vibration environment can introduce electrical noise which will can crash your engine computer while your engines running. Not ideal. Spend enough and keep the quality up. Not specifically sockets but high vibration environments and often high/variable temperatures in cars (and also unstable non-smooth power) are a different ball game for electronic projects. Very harsh environment. For the most part Industrial/Military spec are the go. I would be confident those sockets will do you well from the description.

not only that... the machine drilled sockets have more room for the tip of your iron to solder the damn thing on!

The ebay ones I linked above came though. As expected they're chip pulls, of varying colour and age. All winbond @ 45ns. Ive tested several of them (including some of the hardest ones to get out) and they all passed. GQ log shown. The one which failed was not sitting in the programmer well. I re-socketed it in the ZIF socket and it came out fine. They also were all blank, which backs that they have been tested after being removed from the computers or equipment from which they were pulled. 50 chips, $108au at the other weeks exchange rate.

I also tested the signed GQ v2.01 windows 10 drivers and flashed on windows 10 without trouble. Note that there is now a new GQ-4x4 model which is not compatible with the older ones and has different drivers too. The windows 10 signed v2.01 drivers are hidden half way down the official driver page @mcumall.com for the GQ model most of us have. They also report v2.00.
