Re: GregsVN
gee youd have to be fairly close to center lining up those new foams? I dont think there is much air gap between the voice coils and magnets normally.

Re: GregsVN
jayme, normally what happens is you cut into the dust cap, and, use 'shims' of about the thickness of paper, maybe just a bit more, to shim the space between the cone and the voice coil.
normally interference is heard in the excursion of the driver if its out, but, with the foam glued in place ie: only to the cone, all is well in this instance. it really depends on the individual speaker.
these are very old tandy/realistic 'Mach2' speakers from the late 80's early 90's. speakers were made 'big' back then (i have a similar pair of these in my study, they are marantz however) - the bass from the 15" woofers absolutely thunders through the house when they are turned up.

Re: GregsVN
yep. a friend had linear design which were awesome as well, thunder down under, high ends were not too good, not that my old ears can tell much any more
just glued the outer foam and have bulldog clips holding the thing down. perfect fit between the outer part of the foam surround and the frame. pic to come

Re: GregsVN
That has turned out really well, nice work. My shed speakers look just like your before picture ... has given me hope of restoring them!
Re: GregsVN
Nice work! Very common fault on bose 301 speakers, the foam surround just disintegrates
