Not from my experience or what my various manuals say. In the Commodore range as far as I'm aware they had 190°F units until VR/VS when it went up to 192°F.

No idea what what was used pre Commodore.

Huh, guess I need to remove my foot from my mouth then... the only genuine GMH manuals I have are for older vehicles where the specs are open temp 177-182, fully open by 202 (F). Guess you can't trust any of the aftermarket manuals. I've never seen anything else available on the shelf and the parts listings always point to the same one for all models, all my vehicles have always come with 180F units. Aside from the larger bearing water pump nothing really changed with the cooling system so it seems weird it was changed after so many years.

The V6 with the higher temp thermostat runs a higher pressure radiator cap to match, if you are at the higher end I would be doing this (assuming the system is up to it). Guess that's probably already true for the vehicles that had a 190 thermostat.

Higher temp engines aid with fuel atomisation and emissions and would be the most likely reason for the change.

Just went through a log of my VR V8 and the engine temp is floating around the 90 deg and the air temp gets to a maximum of 80. I have the cold air intake fitted so that should give an idea where a std car would be.

Does anyone know of a genuine Holden thermostat of 82ºc that will fit V6? According to holden spare parts there is no lower temp one and all V6 models have the one part number.

I dont want to use an aftermarket one if I can help it as I have had nothing but problems with aftermarket ones being more than 10ºC out, all being too cold and going colder over time, 6 months normally.

Seems odd, I've used Tridon thermostats for years without any major issues.

I've use 4 in a row as all only sit at 75-80c where they were 91c stats. installed a genuine one and no probs, sits at 91-92

That's unlucky I fitted a tridon recently to my 5 litre and it's very tight at 92 deg. Brought from Burson.

I used a dayco instead and that worked for a while and the temps started to drop too but it was a lot better than my luck with tridon. Genuine ftw!

sounds like you need to get one that brand hotter and it might sit where you want ??
