What a show off! With that ping time there must be a speed test server around the corner

depends on the overhead of your end-equipment I guess... ADSL has like 30ish ms of latency added by design, unless you use the relativlty new Annexe M, which substitutes some reliability with speed. from what I heard, most FTTN uses VDSL which is a higher speed relative of ADSL, which I guess is better, but still more latency than straight Fiber. on my fixed wireless I did a tracert to find the closest router to me that responds, which appears to be about 30ms ish (tho erraticly jumping between 25 and 50ms), so I guess the wireless equipment has a bit of latency as well.

I get a solid 19-20ms on the first hop excluding the less than 1ms for the router.

Big G's isn't FTTN it's FTTP and is why the 4ms ping and high throughput.

I have FTTN and typically get a 12-14ms ping, I'm on a 25/5 plan and usually get 22-25/4-5.

That's what I'm getting with my new ADSL2+ modem/ASUS router. Although for some reason the upload speed test comes in slower than what I actually get.

With my old belkin modem/router combo ping was usually double what it is now.

Not a lie but close on the throughput limits of the gigabit copper, which is the bottleneck. Fibre and gigabit copper, but not NBN. Also unfortunately not at my house. Office lan party at christmas is fun.
