Heu guys got my flywheel off and some 10mm dowels and i dont think theres enough room to drill the existing holes out to 10mm

machine up a stepped dowl? ive done it for other things but not flywheels, i doubt there'd be a problem in doing so

sure there is, just seat the dowels slightly below the surface where the bolt heads go and its all good.

So you recon theres enough meat there to go up to 10mm vlad?

Otherwise i might machine the dowels down at work to the right size

I did a how to thread on fitting the dowels. I have a different opinion though on size of the dowels required. If they are a tight fit into the crankshaft & snug fit in to flywheel I believe 8mm to be plenty. The purpose of the dowel is to stop movement of the flywheel back & forth, which helps loosen the flywheel bolts & leads to broken bolts.

immortality we also used to use the taper pins for alignments, brings back memories of the apprenticeship days.

Use only harden dowel I reckon, unbrako sell them.ok

I reckon any weakening of the bolt holes from the dowel will be offset by the dowels themselves.

I reckon you also could offset drill them so they are inward of the bolt holes which will help with meat around the bolts.

thats a good point the indexing holes in the crank are like that and are 10.3 and 11.4mm diameters.
