LOL, she buys a pair of shoes, I buy a exhaust system....... I never win that argument, even when I pull out the "it'll make your car more fuel efficient" argument :D

My oldest boy intends to go to uni next year and the youngest wants to go to medical school in Otago (we are in Auckland) in a couple of years time. I don't want to think about what it's going to cost me. Apparently we earn to much so the government says they are both entitles to nothing (student allowances/cost of living etc) that all the so called poor students get while studying away from home.

Well a bit of news, the new trans had some trouble, something's not good in the torque converter, it ended in major slipping and the front pump bearing wearing out and basically would have been pissing fluid into the converter. Was a cheap TCI, so lesson learnt! ive put my old pump into the trans for the time being and used a spare factory torque converter i had with 160km on it, all running very well again.

I pulled down the old transmission while i was at it, looks like it's fine, just the first 2 clutches are worn down in the forward pack and found the cause, a checkball stuck in the plate, so if i had of known the trans would still be alright, not bad for 300k and a good workout, i think a good cooler and fully synthetic oil helped alot! All the other clutches and hard parts are still like new! Will throw some spare clutches in and fix the pump up and be a good spare box.

Onto torque converters, when i eventually get around to doing this engine, ill look at upgrading the TC, anyone know any decent brands, only TCI and B&M are on ebay and both seem to get a bad wrap. I think i might have to look to the US to get something hand made or decent quality.

I've always used these guys for all my torque converters and I've never had anything but perfect results.

I've recently started getting converters from dominator also (recommended by my dyno guy) and so far have done a V8 T700 2200rpm with kevlar lockup and V6 T700 3800-4000rpm with no lockup ... so far so good for both, but not lots of kms on them to say much more!

sounds like one to try! ive sent them an email and see what they have to offer. It did 25,000km and when i pulled the box apart everything else still looks new, all clutches still new and it's running perfectly with the stock converter back in now. It did only cost me $250 i think, what's the dominator ones go for, im thinking ill try saving around $600
