Re: The1's Daily

Re: The1's Daily
yeah that with a Kevlar lockup, you'll be set

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

After a fair bit of reading it's down to 2 converter makers, this is a reply from Edge converters in the US, havn't heard back from dominator yet. Edge after postage is very excy at $1000 AUD.
Hello Nigel, and thanks for inquiring,
I recommend a custom configured converter from our "Street Edge" series
with stall math set at 2600-2800 rpm, and STR set at 2.40.
This converter uses the 245mm (9.5") impeller and turbine (furnace brazed).
The 9.5" impeller is the most efficient impeller ever adapted into
performance applications. With 8 impellers and 8 stators to select from this
converter can be truly custom configured with no cutting or bending inside
the coupler. This means better launches are a guarantee, better mid range
response is guaranteed and no excess heat or loss of top end, guaranteed!
All the gains while retaining 100% of the manners needed for every day
street use!
All wear surfaces are fitted for enclosed Torrington bearings for less
drag and improved longevity in performance application. The drive hub and
spline insert of made of 4130 chrome moly steel. The lock up feature is
upgraded using the latest "high carbon" friction and anti balloon measure is
standard.
Warranted for a full two years, with our 100% money back satisfaction guarantee.
The "Street Edge" 4L60E sells for 545.00 plus shipping (188.10 via USPS global priority)
Please let me know if you have other questions, or call me direct at the desk line below.

Re: The1's Daily
nothing happening thus far, but today i did fill up with E85 to give it a run, i fitted some 40LB Fomoco injectors and rail has 3.5bar reg, will tune it up and compair to 98, see what's in it for a stocker.

Will be interesting to see how it goes with E85.
Did you drain the tank before filling to run straight E85 or you just going to put it in on top of any remaining 98?

Re: The1's Daily
With timing I found that its not much different to petrol except from what I can tell you need to reduce timing from when it plateaus up to red line and slightly up it from idle to the peak of the climb.
So basically less top end timing, bit more lower end timing. E85 from my understanding in burns faster needing bit less timing. I think the increase in the lower end might correspond in the ability to more aggressive timing from ethanol resistance to knock.
In dynosim the whole ignition curve is reduced with e85, interestingly the low end VE increases with e85 and therefore increases the low end torque a bit, top end doesn't seem to change much

Re: The1's Daily
it wont be pure, prob 10L of 98ron left in the tank, down to empty and 50km left on trip computer, i put 35L in and ill run that down then give it a full tank.
I had the tune perfect on 98ron, ive found after 2 days to work and back overall fuel adjustment of 27% more and 2-3% in WOT areas reduction, so 27% more fuel in general areas and 25% at WOT.
Ive run it straight up with the same spark and found a loss at WOT and no change in general areas. I tried increasing the WOT areas by 2-3 degrees past normal 98ron limits but no gains either and a few spots it set off knock, set for next week drop the spark and see if that changes anything, currently im running stock spark gap. Both tests are run in the morning on the same road with ruffly the same intake temps 15c
Perhaps when i get a fresh full tank in it'l change a bit? Perhaps dropping the spark will improve it? Or perhaps it's just a fuel that loves compression, either high compression N/A or Forced Induction.

Re: The1's Daily
yeah I found the same, more timing up top killed off power. The timing need to reduce.
I think you would of picked up on false knock probably from the excessive piston side load of already being past MBT with stock spark and even more so by you increasing it. I tried 40o at WOT on my VP with no knock at all just to test its resistance. I know I hear audible knock from 98 around 26o with hot intake so this proves its virtually can't be set off.
You yield best performance from e85 with 13:1 CR and upward. Still there is gains at low end regardless.

Re: The1's Daily
Try reducing the timing down overall by 4-5o which is what dynosim is suggesting.
