Just thought I'd update everyone with the Tech 1 I have.

Last week I purchased the GM Tech 1 # 3000053 16/12 Pin Non-OBD II DLC Adapter12-16 pin OBD 2 style adaptor for the Tech 1 for $29 + postage $25. I have been watching site like ebay and these things usually list near $100 so I jumped the opportunity for this one.

Today I purchased
GM Tech 1 # TA00065 SIR Dual UART Adapter 1990-1991 $20.50
GM Tech 1 # TK05030B RS232C I/F S/N 14016557 $20.50
GM Tech 1 # TA02279B Isuzu Delco 3-Pin Adapter 1987-Up $20.50
GM Tech 1 # T100 GM CAMS Bosch ABS 4WAL Adapter $20.50
GM Tech 1 # TA00022 Bosch ABS Adapter 1990-1991 $20.50
GM Tech 1 # TA02659 Adapter $20.50
GM Tech 1 # TA02149 GM Pin E Adapter 1986-1989 $20.50
GM Tech 1 # Test Adapter $20.50
GM Tech 1 # TK03590 Hydra-Matic 88-91 Transmission $20.50
GM Tech 1 # TK03590 Hydra-Matic 88-92 Transmission $20.50
Plus $29.00 postage.

If I had waited I would have got the 16/12 pin adaptor at the cheaper price but I didn't wait and it is what I wanted more than the rest.

Anyway, once it all gets here and I get a couple of cartridges reprogrammed I'll be able to do all Holden (Australian manufactured + Toyota and Nissan badge engineered equivalents) up to and including VS S2, all US GM to 1996, and some Isuzu to 1996. All this because of a broken ignition barrel and an air bag warning light

Least it'll significantly help you and any locals!!

Better it in you hands than wasting away in a shed somewhere.

That's the plan, offer OEM diagnostic etc services.

I'm just glad I was able to get such a good deal from both Kojab for the initial kit and the guy in the states that the other parts are coming from. It pays to be patient and not just buy the first time you see something. Learn what the market prices are and grab a bargain when you can. I will eventually get myself a Tech 2 as well, I didn't want to but I will, but while my VT engine runs an earlier ECM there is no rush to do so.

tech1 wont do a VT though.

Also of note the vpecker cable replaces the tech1 but not the tech2 entirely, it will only do commodores, where as he tech2 does all holden vehicles.

I know.

Tech 2 will do all OBD2 GM (and affiliate) vehicles from approx 1996 up to approx 2012 as long as you have the right cartridge and cables. There is also the Mastertech that accepts Tech1 cartridges and does OBD2 vehicles as well up to a certain point but as far as I can tell it was never used by GM dealerships. The thing with a Tech 2 is actually finding one that is either genuine or a clone that works like a genuine one does.

My genuine tech2 does exactly the same things my tech1 does...

Interesting, so the Tech 2 card does 808 ECMs? Not arguing just clarifying.

The MDI interface can also run the tech2win emulator and with that the official tech2 bin files (not tech1) and be used with the newer online tools, too. Not saying its better but just for the record.
