i got these and did test fits. pretty shit imho.

The valley seals do not fit at all no matter how hard you force them in, the LIM gaskets are pretty good apart from one problem. The locating pins are made from silicone and doesn't hold the gasket it place and it just slips down when bolting down the LIM. only solution there is to cut them rubber pins out and dowel pin the heads and drill the holes in the gaskets.

but for 44 bucks mexican made genuine gaskets kinda tells you the story. The quality of the aluminium plate of these gaskets is an awful finish not that it matters much, but still

oh and one of the 2 sets i bought had a defect in the aluminium plate. It was bent before having the seal moulded to it so the silicone spread out in the bent spot, I mean it was bent a lot, at 45 angle on the inside of an intake runner.

Geez you had a bad run there.
I have installed two set without an issue. They are to suit the series II 3800 engine. Were you fitting them to the earlier Buick type 3800 V6 engine ? Because being a taller engine the valley vee is different angle slightly.

I am aware of those metal ones, I rolled the dice and thought the plastic jobs can't be too bad if they last 10yrs in a stock engine.

Since I need replacements I'll get the metal ones to try... but mace want $90 a pair!

A stray current test is worth a try later.

and yeah I agree, my stray currents had similar results, nice new alloy radiator fucked in 6 months!

I'll put some pics up soon, but the weather and other jobs has caused some delays in disassembly. (Edit, Pics added)

The water pump is a suspect in this failure... on the side on the road I could wobble the pulley, and the housing had a pink colorization. Didn't feel stupidly hot, but I had gloves on.
Now it looks and feels brand new. Bloody thing is laughing at me.

It was changed in the recent past and has repco written all over it (Well its has same marking as my spare repco pump), it will get a full autopsy.
Removed the harmonic balancer using the breaker bar and starter motor method to crack the nut, then a 3 jaw puller to slowly back it out using the original bolt as a stop.

So we're about ready to take off the timing case when I find my 3/8 spanner for the sump bolt. It was getting dark and I had to feed the tribe and enjoy some quiet time. Day over.
(Because I have a new chain in a box I should probably install before the old one rips a hole somewhere too, and a new CAS for good measure)

I found nulon coolant goes red when it dries where it's green when liquid.
