thanks for listening, hopefully someone got something out of it, i thought id snap up first place to share my experiences. We could perhaps make a meetup every few months, there's plenty of other talented people that can share if they choose, even if it's just a meetup to update ourselves on what's happening on the forum, can still learn plenty from idle chatter.

The video worked but didn't record my voice :/, it recorded everyone else's, but just trying it now it works, not sure if skype was holding the mic line or something, will have to work it out for next time and get myself up to scratch with skype to. Was a bit last minute the recording side.

Ill post a link in here once the video is done uploading.

Geez, looks like you guys had a good yarn last night.

was good to have a chat, went through plenty of stuff, was all unplanned though so i guess further ones could be planned and information gathered for more in depth talk about a particular item/topic, didn't do much actual demo stuff either using bench gear. Have to start somewhere though. Also the video above is best viewed in 720p for the correct scaling. Did anyone else get a recording?

Good to see this went ahead and was a success with everyone learning something new. Watching the vid now as I couldnt make it.

Hey, I got a question from last night, Dick mentioned that he has learnt a lot about ecu's from bench programming. My question is why would you want to program an ecu out of the vehicle it is intended for? From a repairers point of view, this doesn't make sense... To me anyway

I think Dick was talking about testing as well as programming. A programming bench can be as simple as power, ground and comms to allow no interference by other modules in the car interrupting the programming sequence (if the programming tool supports this, some need to see other modules) to a test bench that pretty much simulate an entire engine and electronic trans... When trying to work out what particular cal parameters do it can be very handy to setup some steady state conditions and then make changes to sensors. My bench also gets used for code development, dont want to be testing new code at the risk of torching an engine!
