Bit more playing and some insight, this method is a bit hit and miss when working with a faulty ecm.
Have comms but missfire on a cylinder/dead injector.

Bench, silence bus and times varied starting at 100ms and now at 500ms on a 4th run.

So far been told pin found and reset at 0015, 0165 and 5378.
Ecm still not reset but will keep at it until success or I rip the pim eeprom to find the actual magic number.

if the waitime is to short it can have a habbit of picking up the ok from the ecu from the previous command, the reply back also from the silence command is the same as pin success so that doesn't help, i need more programming and skills lol ill hopefully get time this weekend to have a poke at it. Thanks all for your time.

Ah, interesting.
Failed again with 1500ms delay.
Got success @ 6857 with 2000ms delay overnight once I went to bed.

With good working ecu's ive had success at 500 in vehicle with silence enabled, 100 on bench with silence disabled.

So it may be with a ecu that has issues the processor is pegged somehow?

Possibility, just thought I'd post findings as I go.
Got there in the end, Just a heads up for anyone else.

At least it's simple, once it "finds and unlocks" just rerun the program, if it starts counting again then it was not successful.
If it replies with "*** ECU Unlocked *** With Pin: 0001" then you know it got it right and the ecm is unlocked :)

had a little play over the weekend it looks like the Tactrix cable doesn't support channels or needs to connect in a different way?, even in the drewtech generic J2534 program and vxdiag version i can't assign a channel for some reason, which means once it connects the filters and read / write command doesnt work.

When doing the protocol connect command, the channel is passed as a reference and should be returned with a value from the tools DLL, if that makes any sense :)

yeh there's no error from the tool via err but it passes no data in or out. Works fine with vxdiag but not with any other tools, somethings missing, ill keep messing here and get it fixed.
