hows this for reduced battery life.... in my VY my missus jammed the seat adjuster switch (which is always powered) when she took the car for a drive. she got back and parked it, as I work from home, I dont drive it much. 5 days later I go to start it and its dead as a doornail. 10 amp draw on the seat switch when jammed! this thing was flat as a tack for about 4 days. worst thing is I put a brand new battery in it a day before all this happened !#$@$@#@#$%@$@#$!@#@#$.

i flatten is like that in my VP 2 times before. jump start and still going like new years latter. My battery is half hanging though to the road and the tray has rusted out and it bangs about all the time at 45ยบ angle.

Still like new when I bought it in 08. its a Delkor battery so I bought the very same for the VR. its starts fine even low but I reckon 12P must handle the MALF differently to the VP's memcal.

Talking about batteries, anyone tried on of these-

Got enough CCA for a V6 and only 1.7 Kg. Thinking about giviing it a crack.

I'm running an Optima battery now. A little insurance as they can cop a lot more abuse. A standard battery would die when the car wasn't used for a couple of weeks, the Optima still starts it not an issue. If it's not used for more than a couple of weeks it still gets the charger though to be safe.

I'll stick to my battery. Delkor are one of the best wet batteries out there, just not many have heard of them. there is no issues with it, it just goes down a tad if i don't drive the car for a month without the charger.

I could disconnect the lead if im not using it but i loose radio setting and those factory ratios are quite complicated to use when storing setting.

It starts fine. V6 can start on half dead lawn mower batteries. I know as I have that VP parts car which sat many many months with a mower battery and starts instantly on likely to be 3+ year old fuel

vlad01 wrote:Anyone have anymore details on fault code 41 other than "41 No Crankshaft reference pulses. Ignition voltage < 11 volts etc."

I got this twice in a row on the VR today which had 0 problems starting or running. It seemed fine, had the laptop on it at the time and didn't see anything abnormal.

I wonder if stating with high beams on and lowish battery could trigger the code as thats what I did twice.
Code 41 is pretty simple in what it checks for. While there are no reference pulses from the CAS it looks at baro and the current MAP, if there is a small amount of difference (Malf 46 - Vac threshold while cranking) then also checks the battery voltage. If it is less than "Malf 46 - Battery voltage threshold" for the time "Malf 46 - Time threshold" a code is set.

The idea being that while cranking there will be some vacuum pulled and battery voltage drops, but if no reference pulses are seen sets the error.

Logging at key on will show up what is happening. If you had the battery disconnected the baro will be default of 100kPa at first key on (and from memory your baro is normally much less than this), if the battery is stuffed and below 11.1V then you will get an error set after 2 seconds of turning the key on.

I didn't have it disconnected before key on. I once had the CEL come on last year after stopping at the side of the road for a min and restarting got a CEl but i didn't look at the code, I assume it would of been the same thing.

So if happen few times but starts and runs fine so not sure whats the go. I assume with no actual ref signal it wont start?

after updating to the latest 12P112 my baro only ever shows up as 104kap in TP. Is that right?

some logs. Interest that in the first one before I actually start it does show a default of 100Kpa on key on and then sets to 96 once its running.

2nd log I on purposely left the lights on for a bit and yes it does momentarily drop below 11v with lights on, on a lowish battery.

So my question is why does the baro default to 100Kpa on the first start? is it a TP thing when its first started on the first connection to the car or does it somehow loose the memory for the baro only overnight?

What ADX are you using and what item are you looking at?

I am not seeing the baro at 100kPa before starting in the first log, its at 96kPa in log test1 and 95.6kPa in log test2.

Im using the ADX from 12P 112. I was looking at the baro on the dash, most of the time its 104, sometimes its 100 and sometimes its the correct 95 for my altitude.

im pretty sure I saw Biggvl's one do this too when we were on the dyno. 104 iirc.

most of the time TP reports 104 for the baro all the time during engine running.
