You should have 12 volts at both coil terminals with key on and when you crank the negative gets grounded thru the module. Can't be very hard to solve.

I agree. We will see this weekend.Charlescrown wrote: Can't be very hard to solve.

Success at last. Upon further testing I discovered that when I disconnected the plug to the CAmira coil I lost the switching signal from the module, also as posted earlier the Check light wouldn't light.

I assume the MSD instructions for connecting to the Delco ignition must be pre module because I followed the wiring diagram correctly it I didn't test for the signal at the white wire.
I currently have left the Delco coil in place and connected the stock loom but cut the signal wire and Connected this to the MSD white wire. I am then using the MSD coil.
I removed the ECU plug to the module and locked the dizzy at 10 degrees. And it helps having a new timing chain as it sits solid on 10 degrees unlike my last test motor where the timing mark was jumping all over the place.
I am really happy at the smooth idle with the MSD as this motor idled like a pig with the stock Valiant ignition. Same plugs, leads and dizzy

Great to see. What happened to the EFI side of things? I thought it was all up and running and now it's got a carbie.
Re: 265 Hemi to efi
That was a different car and different motor. I had to transplant the efi from the VH charger to the VK ute. Fuel side is next but I wanted to test the ignition side first to isolate potential problems I.e. The carb will always turn the motor over if I tip a cap of petrol down it's throat.
I am also stripping out the old ignition wiring and fixing the crap repair job by the previous owner so after I remove a heap of wiring I always start the motor just to make sure I haven't upset anything.
It's amazing this car ran, they must have had a big problem at some stage and replaced about a foot of loom. it must have been the compression of the tape that kept the wires connected because half the wires pulled out of their connectors with no effort.

Gotta love that wiring. Almost professional. Nothing makes tracing easier than using all the same colour. I thought you were using the ute to get the engine all up and running the transplanting it back into the other car.

Re: 265 Hemi to efi
I had a change plan. I had a 245 in the VH Charger which I did all the efi setup testing on. I was going to build a 265 with forged low compression pistons, turbo etc for the VH but it was going to be so long before the car was painted and completed and I didn't want to rush it. I seen the Dodge ute and thought I could get it up and running a lot quicker than the VH rolling chassis. It's cost me around $5k to get it where it is now but it's pretty solid, new brakes, new front end bits, rebuilt LSD diff. There are still some rust issues but nothing that would get the car put off the road.Charlescrown wrote:Gotta love that wiring. Almost professional. A 360 or 410 stroker will be going in the VH.

that motor is purring nicely
and yeah whoever did that wiring should be shot!

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
