Was thinking about helicoil, but apparently these are better.

no it was at the other end of the block, and yeah I have plenty of blocks under the bench but its not so much that, more that I've said to myself a long time ago i'm not pushing every night just to get to the drags, its not worth it, I don't enjoy it and neither does the wife!

plus i pretty much pushed the cash situation just to get it back together now, so i'll be going beyond that if I was to do anymore, and that's not going to happen so close to Christmas!

as far as timesert or helicoil, I have done helicoils before in another block and they seem to work fine, I guess the question will be if my mate has them or not i'll just got with whatever he has available.

You could always use 1/2" stud's or bolts, which are often used in large HP Holden 6's.

whats the go there you just drill the holes out in the head to fit the larger ones ?

i'd say its more than likely just too many years of use and the threads are just getting too worn.

That sucks mate.

I'd suggest the heli-coil. I use these at work all the time. You could go the way of the larger head bolt but that would mean the clamping forces wouldn't be equal which may cause other issues further down the track.

The timesert are stronger but you need to drill a larger hole to fit.

Drill the head out to suit 1/2", tap the block to suit 1/2"unc, it wouldn't hurt using studs if the budget allows, but bolts will be Ok.

im using arp head studs, i think i'll stick with the helicoil for them, i only just bought them at easter :P

i've thought about it a bit, i reckon i'll do a full block helicoil, just to make sure no others have the issue down the track!

I would timesert them, far superior to helicoils

If you have 7/16" studs now, stick with them & "heli coil" the block. Because your motor is now boosted, think of 1/2" for the future when you start cranking the boost up. :turbo: :driving:
