Checked one out the other day. looks identical to the VR-VS ones apart from the badge on the rear flaps.

scuffed it, sandblasted any corrosion, and washed it with aqua clean pre paint water based wax & grease remover which also happens to etch alloy as its alkaline. Then finally regular prepsol.

I used black caliper paint but for some reason it has poor adhesion, so I went back tot he silver caliper paint which I know binds to alloy like its anodized on. its weird considering both are VHT. The only dif is the black is gloss while the silver requires the clear coat. maybe thats why? Anyway i know the silver is good and it looks factory.

vigously sanded this quarter window for hours and hours. its rubber so it aint easy.

then washed it with that same aqua clean (its KBS btw), masked it the next day and prepsol'd it and painted away with VHT plastic/rubber trim paint. It works very well and doesn't look like gravel unlike the K & H brand, all their products are garbage. Never will buy their shit again.

So next is getting the last of the panels which is the boot I pinched from the vacationer, which is getting welded up. and a new aftermarket from left panel, already got a new aftermarket right which is actually not bad quality and it just easier to deal with for my painting man Troy than to stuff around with used panels which have all kinds of little annoyances.

I used 320 I think, some 240 as well but mine were pretty smooth as far as these windows go.

on my vacationer it would be impossible to smooth them out. better off going to a wrecker and getting them best ones you can before you attempt this otherwise you will be disappointed. And the fact they might have already good ones there. One I got from the wreckers is almost perfect, very minor fading. so I will sand and paint them anyway to match the other side.

all trim paints are matte finish, but with the VHT trim paint, you can buff it to a semi gloss with a dry cloth, kinda like shoe polish.

one door trim restored.

also acquired a L2 dash from an actual VP of the same year. looks better than VR L2 dash.

The tach has way more gradients than the VR ones.

the cluster looks to be in great nick

The door trim turned out great, did you just use vinyl paint or something else?

yes vht vinyl dye. its proving to outlast the vacationer so far.

it actually is a dye not a paint. there are solvents that dissolve plastics and vinyls and the dye mixes into them and when the plastics and vinyls set again the pigment is embedded in them. It doesn't sit on top like paint, it becomes parts of the top layer of the material.

its evident because it does not build, even 7 coats does not build much are all. its also comes up different shades depending on the plastic type, vinyls come up darker and shinier. and its supper watery and drys in seconds and smells like port as its mostly solvent, probably MEK and probably ethyl acetate as well cos it smells like it

because its a dye, it only works on plastics of soluble type in solvents like acetates, ketones. ABS is like the best plastic to use it on, which 90% of these holdens interiors are made from.

oh and also its completely flexible as its part of the material once dry.

as for the cluster. I got that from a berlina I have been raiding parts from for a while, I guy I know owns it, I have taken quite a few parts from it.

diff and tank for my vacationer. many plastic interior parts and how I got this dash and picking up the rear bumper from it today.

I got a deal where I get all this stuff from him for free is I transfer the berlina interior over to his V8 executive as a favor, which is done up real nice. He is getting me to do it as I am apparently the top VP expert on the town lol

oh btw I used carpet cleaner on the fabric insert, thats why it looks grey as it should, not brown. And now is matches my seats

the type that you vacuum and ingredient is methylene chloride (paint stripper) :shh: masking all other areas is a must. it will wreck plastics, vinyls and paint but my god does it work.

I have stopped. too cold and days are too short to do anything now. it was officially winter few weeks back  :hmm:

Have to wait to late spring, sand all the primer off and start again. Victoria for ya, actually more specific cold Kyneton for ya

might do some suspension and electrical work for now as everything else depends on 20Âșc + temps and low humidity.

Ill give some updates now to whats been done since the last.
