so learnings for me from today

gotta get some new rods. stainless rods weld mild steel really REALLY well
my filler rod is crap
alloy is hot when welded and does not glow.
the torch is almost held vertical to the work piece.
if the filler rod gets stuck to the work piece, buzz the torch over it to unstick it, don't try and force it
turn the ends of the filler rods over at the end so you don't poke peoples eyes out
MIG gloves suck balls for TIG - use riggers gloves or TIG gloves
argon gas is needed for TIG
make sure shit is clean when you weld
red tip tig gun electrode is for mild steel. orange is universal
thick filler rod needs more amps to melt, but thinner stuff is easier to control.

big shout out to biggvl for opening up his shop again today. huge thanks to HQ for the tips and sharing his knowledge, and vlad for coming along as well, good company good people, good times. ps: thanks vl400 too ;)
Cheers,

Was a great day, I think you've come a long way today from your starting point, you just need to remember to hold torch more upright and closer :) I think "biggvl" was allways a rig welder, he took to it like a duck to water, and it was nice to be able to teach vlad something, I think that was a 1st lol

Hey psyolent, the tungstens are red -mild steel/stainless and white is aluminium and gold (not orange ) is universal, of course there's others for specialized welding buy for most of us these will do. Was a top day ( weather) and an even better day with the company, thanks biggvl for another turnout !

lol, first time ever seen anything like that before.

I got flashed quite a few times in the eyes because I wasn't ready with the mask, I'm fine.

flash your self with small ones to build immunity to bigger flashes and ultimately welding with no mask at all.
