I believe Comp Cams do a anti-pump lifter to suit.

nah I mean its the opposite problem I always get. they un-pump and rattle

Don't you mean bleed down?
Could be a sign of oil contamination too. Hydraulic lifters have the smallest orifice in the engine so any particulate matter in the oil that the filter doesn't catch could very well get stuck in the lifter

nah, the engine is pristine inside and always the cleanest oil change procedure.
This bleed down occurred when revving it over 5k too many times. It happen on nearly all pre ecotecs I have owned.
They wear out or something goes wrong inside them lol. Ecotec no probs but they did get a slightly revised lifter by then.
Anyway the point of this exercise is my lifter need replacing anyway so I will install better, most reliable and robust ones. you buy new lifters from GM, they are LS7/LS9 ones as standard, they supersede the old ones.
And from what I have read people rave how much better they operate that the previous generations even with nothing else changed in the valve train, I read a lot of people claim they work nice a quite like new many years later.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
Just been informed that GM has stopped making the timing covers in the US in March this year. None left.
Lucky kilkenny castings make them for all V6s. only down side is they are expensive. VPW sell them at a reasonable price of 370 bucks. All other sites are 550-750 each. ouch!
Still 370 is a lot more than the 173 I was paying last year from GM lol. Ecotec ones have gone up to 300 and something USD, they must be using up old stock I reckon and not making them anymore, few months ago they were just over 200 for a cover.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
why do you need a new one ? can't find one from a wreckers or something ?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
Just starting out? Have a read of the getting started guide
Basic tuning of a delco ECM with $12P thread
Advanced tuning of a delco ECM with $12P thread

they all get trashed in the divide wall in the oil pump housing bleeding oil pressure and recirculating debris.
I got a number of covers, they are pretty ordinary. Being old high k engines at the wreckers and most certainly neglected its not worth the hassle, especially that you cant remove them at a wrecker.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
I've worked with a number of these engines that spend there time between 5500 to 6500 rpms & not having any issues with lifter bleed down, as immortality has mentioned, I'd be looking at springs. What type & grade of oil are you using?

I use 15W50.
Interestingly I have found 10W40 to operate the lifters more quite at low rpm but noisier at higher rpm, its the other way around with thicker oil

Re: Vlad's rides thread
Took the VR for a cruise today. Made some minor changes in the tune. Disabled knock detection altogether. Was annoying me with random false knocks every now and then.
Filled the lean cruise table to make 15.6 AFR as a starting point instead of 17. Haven't enabled it yet, waiting for VE learn to nail the VE table perfectly first.
Changed the target AFR to 12.5 just to make sure any possible lean cylinders are covered from no bell mouth. The leanest on the dyno for a V6 I found to be 13.1 before very light knock happens at full noise with ideal timing. I had my table set at 12.7.
Other than that, not much else to do on it.
