Re: DELCOS NEW RIDE
anyone ever broke a tail shaft? I am rebuilding my atm and so many places its thin as. I makes me wonder how it takes stock power.
The splined section that goes into the CV is literately as thin as my thumb in the middle of that shaft. I noticed all the screws holding the CV were bent on the manual tail shaft but ok on auto one.

I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: DELCOS NEW RIDE
what i found surprising is the fact i stripped the rust off the tail shaft in my vp with acid. I am amazed that I have not had a failure with hydrogen embrittlment given that my whole drive train has been pounded like no tomorrow.
As for the bolts. I found it strange that the bolts bent because the factory CV is sealed against the flange with a loctite product. Its basically like super glued in. It took quite a bit of bashing to break the seal.
I could not see any evidence of the CV rotating in place so its got me stuffed on how they bent?

Re: DELCOS NEW RIDE
Maybe someone had em off before and didn't tighten em properly. I always clean the threads and use loctite on those cap screws. The thought of it coming loose and the rear half of the shaft dropping down onto the road is to much to think about.vlad01 wrote:anyone ever broke a tail shaft? Re: DELCOS NEW RIDE
nah it was original untouched shaft. Was a fight all the way with the heavy rust and seized everything. had to use visegrips, bodus allen key with hammer together to get some of the screws out.
I guess the CV migrated over time.
