lol. whet road.
speaking of exhaust, my VN years ago had a walker super turbo muffler and a twin outlet resonator (with the pacemakers) - it sounded absolutely fabulous.

Dry with some slight damp patches actually. When fully wet it grips better except certain roads in Melbourne where its like its in neutral and redlines instantly in all gears except 5th with stuff all throttle. Canterbury road in Killsyth is by far the worst road I ever drove on, exactly like black ice when its wet.

mine only has pacemakers and factory original middle section, stock rear I replaced some 8/9 years ago.

when the new engine goes in, I will set it up with the same system as the VR has and then hang my mid section on the shed wall, has a smiley face drawn on the muffler from factory hence my avatar lol.

I'm contemplating on using an ecotec sump, does any one have experience will adapting one to pre-ecotec? whats the best way to add the dipstick and I think Ill need to source another for those rocking horse shit T5 ecotec support brackets.

Visted Biggvl today and got a VT sump from him plus looked at some of the new stuff going on since last visit. Looks like I'll be involved in some projects soon.

will post some pics tomorrow, its a huge go go on the sump conversion. big advantages, even more than the ecotec has with those sumps to begin with.

Details latter on that.

see the cross ribbing in it for strength? i remember years ago when 1UZ became popular, the alloy sump was said to be part of 'strengthening' the whole package.
with the VT sump you will have to overcome the dipstick issue and drill the two holes for the rear two bolts. also watch for it fouling on the K frame and the sway bar. it does have alot more capacity though.

The V6 engines did have dipsticks in the side of the block for the US market, there is a plug in the side of the block so it may be fairly easy to adapt a ecotec type dipstick.

The webbing is a big bonus, I was looking at VY sump and weld up the to mounting holes at the back and re-drill new locations for the T5 bellhousing but VY sumps are much more flimsy, no webbing and no baffle. Seem cost saving measure.

They clear VN-VR cars fine, better than the stock actually as the rear support brackets are much less invasive on the ecotec.

I have to add one hole to the block as one one hole is in a different location but I cant change it on the sump as its sort of on the edge, instead I will add it to the block and there is tons a meat there for it.

No need to add holes at the rear, ecotec have holes there but not used. they were leftovers from the US sheet metal pans, not used on our ridged alloy sumps.

The other thing is the pre ecotec holes are too far inward to re-drill on the alloy sump without breaking through the sump. It will seal fine as the flange of the sump extends well part the holes.

Im not going to use a gasket instead a light coat of oil resistant sealant, no gasket will work in the conversion unless a custom one is made.
