so I've been wanting to calibrate the geminin's VSS for a while so I can actually have something close to accurate speedo readings in my logs! so Monday morning I got some dyno time to do this and figured while I was down there I would get it run up on the rollers to see how everythings looking .... last time I did I had one fuel pump, loosing fuel pressure over 16psi boost, a slipping trans and a 4000rpm converter that we couldn't hold below about 5500rpm on the dyno.

so anyways the converter is the same, and we now definitely know its not the gearbox slipping or anything else like that purely the converter is wrong.

it managed a best of 347hp at the wheels plus however much is being lost in the slippery converter ..... but the main issue is my peak torque is about 4000rpm and the converter is flashing to approx. 6000rpm so I am never really getting full usage of my power range!

so in this video below you can hear when it goes WOT it just holds revs and increases wheel speed, in these tests the rpm in my log went from 6300 -> 6400rpm .... my data logs at WSID show similar result of flashing to approx. 5700rpm then sitting there till the wheels catch up then revving to 7400rpm, changing gears and then same each time....

so theres certainly a lot more to be improved in the converter, but everything else seems to be doing what its supposed to so im happy enough :P

at some stage I am going to remove the converter and get it adjusted to hopefully do what I want this time!

oh and the speedo was out by about 17% :)

cant say it doesnt sound horn animal as LOL.we noticed a big difference in the convertor swap little more laggy if you dont give it enough get go on the brakes before launch but we can now get 5psi to launch on if we try hard but the gains are at the other end of the track we used to make max torque round 4000 but convertor flashed to 5500 when boost hit sounded like a sunday drive down the track as rpm never rose apart from when the body caught up in each gear and we went from 5500 to 6500.now we are skating accross the line on the 1/8th struggling for topend traction LOL.the difference in convertors was massive the fins on the nitrous holeshot point totally the opposite direction to the NA convertor same stall rpm for both

yeah that's what they tell me, it might loose 60 foot with a tighter converter but will gain majorly in mph over the line, I think it works out at about 20% slip i'm seeing from rough calcs we did....

also while I was there we rang dominator and the guy reckons that alcohol and boost on a 202 makes a lot of low rpm torque and he thinks the other converter builder probably doesn't realise this or just totally estimated my engines power output wrong when making it.... I've been told dominator say they shouldn't be over 6% slip!

on a side note, I've never watched my engine on the dyno, I am usually too busy watching the dyno graph, man when it comes on boost, all the silicon bends just balloon up hahahaha :)

heres a log from that video, the second power run .... can clearly see it just flashes up as boost builds and stays there!

just got back from Gunnedah, awesome weekend of racing, beers and bbqs :)

so looks like the speedo in the car is now within a few kms of the time slips so thats a bonus!

brother got to have a few runs in the gemini on saturday, he was stoked, and did a 7.3 for his final run (which was faster than i have ever run at gunnedah), so then i came out on sunday and ran a 7.2 ;) and then 2 x 7.4's after that for qualifying.

went into eliminations with a mixed bag of runs to work out a dial in from, i was in group a which ran last, and all i could hear over the PA was people in group d and c were all going under their dial ins ... so im now starting the wonder if the conditions have improved and im going to be in trouble, so i decided on a 7.30 dial in and hoped that if i could get everything right and was ahead at the end i could back off if needed.

so first elimination and i got a reasonable start, and all i could see in the mirror was this car was coming fast!! it was a photo finish ... i ended up losing by .022! was an awesome match up and was happy to loose for a such a close race!

so was on the trailer early but all in all, car ran without a fault and got alot of runs in it so very happy, and starting to feel like theres some reliability in it now!

Good stuff. Gunnedah always "grips up" as eliminations start, it gets a good layer of rubber down.

yeah it didn't seem to change to much for me in the arvo, and in fact my fastest run on the sunday was the first one, but I have a feeling that was because it was nice and sunny for the track temp but still cool air, but it quickly got hot and muggy!

but you can clearly see in that elimination video that there is smoke off my tyres for the first few meters!

The wife asked me a few weeks before Gunnedah what I wanted for Christmas, at first I didn't know, but then as I was planning to get things in place I thought about having to borrow my brothers portable gazebo thing, so that was my Christmas present :)

I was even able to park the car under it enough to get the cabin in the shade to help keep it cool in between races whilst still fitting all our table and chairs under!!
