thanks, but if you saw it close up you'd realise how ugly the welds are, up side is i will grind them back and put some paint over them and they'll be under the car so usually never in sight .... the bit that goes up the back of the boot a few inchs i made sure it was neater and being not under the car it was alot easier to do anyways, so aslong as it blends in i'll be happy!
going to the metal shop on saturday to get a sheet of steel plate so i can work on the rest, also i need to fill in the holes in the parcel tray and the back seat section so im going to use this sheet to just plate them all up as i need to fully seal the boot to meet andra requirements for having the fuel tank in there etc so hopefully over the weekend there will be more progress to put up!!

well after getting a big sheet of .55mm thick 2400mmx1200mm plate and looking at the options for getting a piece of it for the back seat i decided it should have been done before the cage went in and as a result the only easy way to get it in that i can see is through the back window, i did also want to fill the holes in the parcel tray or cover it aswell so i bit the bullet and removed the rear window.

as you can see i found a small suprise under the seal .. really the suprise was how little rust there is i was expecting alot more after what i got out of my torana when i did the same thing. So theres a few hours work there to replace some of the metal in the corners, nothing to loose sleep over though and atleast now i'll know its done!
im also planning to cut the filler neck panel out and make it flat like the other side of the parcel tray seeing how i don't need it.

i didn't get much more time this weekend other than to grind back the welds on the outside of the rear below the bumper.

it seems like weeks since i last had time to work on the car!! logged a good solid few hours tonight while the wife was at painting class!
finally got all the rusty bits removed from the floor pan in the boot and got stuck into template making for the replacement panel.

yeah its funny you should mention that, when i started cutting the rust out on the back section where it curves up from the floor i was like WTF, dust and shit everywhere .... put the wire wheel on the grinder and no joke removed close to 10mm of bog ... looks like previous owner has just bashed the rust area in and put a big layer of bog over it all .....
makes me wonder though, cause the car has a really good paint job so i reckon the paint shop could have done it!

Good to see the cheese has gone.
I use a rust converter primer it has worked well for me.
And in boots i use that stone gaurd under body sealer crap it comes in an aerosol can now and covers up a lot of imperfections welds etc with the textured finish makes em look all pretty again.
