Very tidy indeed.

Seems strange that so much weight was needed on that clutch pressure plate, they should have a neutral balance (or damn close too) from the factory.

is it marked so its keyed to the flywheel in a certain spot ? might have been balanced as one unit ?

I would have thought the rotator was balanced as a complete unit first(crank, balancer, flywheel) and then the pressure plate added afterwards?

im sure vlad will be able to answer, I know from past experience when I got a 202 flywheel and pressure plate balanced they marked beside one of the bolt holes on the pressure plate and the flywheel to show where to locate it for correct balance....

im also not sure how this 50% balance works either, might be the reason weight needed to be added there!

if memory serves, with the dowels in place can't the pressure plate only go on, one way in one particular position?

ecotec already have these threads, thats where I got the idea from. Perfect location as its solid for transmitting sound and right up at the top of the bore where detonation occurs.

Bingo!

thats how it was balanced, the pressure plate was miles out on its own they said but everything else was straight forward. Bit of weight was removed off the rods to get that 50%, 50% is a standard balance. The pressure plate is marked against the flywheel as the centricity of the mounting can vary slightly thus affect overall balance if the pressure plate is turned.

V6 were factory balanced at 36.5% to tune the vibration into horizontal direction whilst practically eliminating vertical. the balance shaft takes care of horizontal block vibration (horizontal rotating mass vibration still exists regardless)

50% balance overall reduced the vibration but its in all directions. The engine should be pretty smooth though.

Do you have the reference for the 36.5%? I remember a GM video or something talking about it.

yeah I recall that too, but Duggan's reference that figure out of the Sunnen's engine reco literature.

Ron at sicsix mentioned that figure before too somewhere on the net he posted years ago.

I asked earlier and you said you'd get back to me.

Is Warren still at Duggan Balancing?

Thanks.

Yep, he's the one been doing most of the work on the engine.
