Hi Tazzi, software is great! even a newbie can get it running! I have two E38 ECU's, the first unit i searched for the key took a couple of days and hey presto! all done! second ECU came up with 0000 for the seed, if i ask for the seed a couple of times it then finds 37AA. If i request "Find key" it reverts to using "0000" i cant seem to get 37AA to stay as seed, any help would be great

huh.. thats an odd occurrence. I havent had anyone else come up with this issue before.
Especially since its specifically setting it to 0000.
So the second ECU is definitely functional and not corrupt or something? SOE should inform you of any unexpected frames of faults?
Try disconnect everything, disconnect the ELM cable, plug it all back in and try again?
Also, the software has been designed around the cable having the "Enable fast baud" option enabled. Not enabling this can result in unexpected behavior!
Have to remember, CAN is a VERY fast protocol! The ELM needs a quick connection to keep up!

37AA isn't your seed ,that's the reply given for security timeout error , hence why you get it when trying again before 10 sec security timeout.
From memory the pcm will give a reply of 0000 when it is already unlocked ,for eg mec is set.

Thanks Guys! once again, an answer very fast! Yes the ECM was supposed to be "new in box" and unlocked. Can I tell if VATS has been disabled with SOE ?

Ahhhh, I dont think you can detect is VATS is on/off. I know when I was doing the initial work, there was some on/off engine data wihich includded "VATS signal detected" or something along those lines.
I havent added it into SOE yet as I have not made a "Checkbox" or "ON/OFF" type switch to display.
