not quite, they are there just not in the same spot as the earlier ones!

I've been thinking about this and im wondering if drilling the holes to suit the new head is the reason it might be leaking ?

I can't recall if you said its a full black motor or just the head swap..... normally when I do them I tap the red motor holes and screw bolts into them with sealer, then get them machined off when the block gets skimmed!

I've seen people not do anything with them and others use grub screws etc, I can't really say if one is better than another but I never prefer to find out the hard way!!

Ok well shouldn't be any holes needed drilling then but definitely needs the other type head gasket!

yeh I knew the reds had them in a different spot but I just mentioned they must be added to the block if it was a red.
I am not to good at wording things right. :hmm:
I never used to do anything with them and i owned one for 8 years and never had any gasket issues.

We had a teacher who loved Holden's and he put a 202 turbo (the old VB setup) on the engine dyno and pretty much without fail popped the engine each second week then spent the next night class rebuilding it and trying again. He loved it the students loved it but the section budget hated it. He had a big collection of head gaskets on the wall (still there) each suffering the effects of detonation or excess boost. When he left another guy took over and took the engine out of our beloved Nissan Bluebird (V6 Holden Supercharged we got ordered to dismantle) and put it on the dyno alas he passed away and it sits there gathering dust till the next adventurist comes along but I don't think that will happen as we got the orders we close down at the end of this year so keep your eyes out for a TAFE auction early next year as it will all go for a song.

autopsy done whats the comp ratio ruffly of 0.040 over flat tops with L casting 12 port heads LOL no wonder its sharp onto boost and pulls mental.
all in all condition looks mint clean crowns no slop at all gasket ring pushed out towards steam hole that only 12 port has

thats like asking how longs a piece of string!

how far down the bore is the piston ? how much meat has been shaved off the deck and/or the head ?

flat tops are not going to help ... might be time to tune for E85 ;)

steam hole ? i assume your talking about the water gallery around the exhaust side middle head bolts ?

so for "shits and giggles" :)

assuming 40 thou over 202, stock vk efi head chamber size (54-56cc), with standard acl race series gasket thickness (.039) zero deck height and flattys ... you are looking at 9.95-10.25 compression

piston .032 down the bore and your looking 9.23-9.5 and if your piston is .060 down 8.7-8.9

im guessing if its got flattys in it, its more than likely got 9.5-10.5 comp cause thats what you want for a N/A motor :)

its not 0 decked.was just after a dead stock engine with 40 thou flattys as a basic general starting point.ill be ccing the heads .should handle the jandle was on pump gas and had a heap of timing in it as i had 2 bar spark map copyed into 3 bar tune so 11psi and well in the 20's timing was probably 10 more degrees than planned LOL.ill cap it at 11psi on pump juice for now and run avgas for the drags like we do with the vb
