if the heads still off and your going to cc it, also get a straight edge onto the block and measure piston depth with feeler gauges, give me these two numbers and i can get you a fairly spot on number.

well looks like 0.030 down the hole a 0.020 and a 0.010 together is snug fit.havnt got to the head yet heading out for syringe and a peice of plexiglass .i did however find TDC mark is out by 10 degrees .TDC of the piston is at 10* advance mark will mark it and check timing with a light when its together dont know if it moved before turbo or after ive either been running 0 base timing and shouldnt of popped a gasket or its smack on from when i converted the dizzy hopefull it hasnt been moving all over the show since before conversion

make sure you mark the inner part of the balancer, mark wont ever change then!! :D

thats one advantage to the serpentine pulley i have bolted to the front of mine, i marked TDC on it and it will only change if the crank keyway sheers off!!

Maybe you just have the wrong balancer, red and blue/black are different as the timing covers have the marks in slightly different spots - I believe the difference is about 10 deg

yeah it is something like that, but also its very common for standard or old balancers to turn the outer ring over time!

Some info here:
http://holdenpaedia.oldholden.com/Harmo ... r_and_Seal

They say not to interchange due to the timing marks and the different balance weight; I wouldn't hesitate to put a heavier one on (blue/black onto red engine I believe) but wouldn't go lighter.

If it has spun I'd be replacing it as the bond will be stuffed and even if it remains in place the outer usually doesn't run true.

There's no difference in the balance or the weight only the position of the timing marks.

Are you sure, the later one has a bit more meat on the back? It never hurts to add a bit more to the sixes though and they're separately balanced
