Yeah that's the go put the stockies in.
Stock motors you're building? I done up a chip for my mate's stock VT V8.
Got it going good there's a bit of room in the stock tunes for a gain.

as per this thread, i am building up a number of FJ40 landcruisers with HSV 195kw engines. (All fj40s are now getting 195kw motors).

Will be stripping down the motor and rebuilding with new rings, bearings, gaskets, seals and now getting the injectors cleaned and flow matched, but essentially i just want to use the standard hsv tune. Its much easier to find VS V6 injectors compared to VT V8s.

cheers

EDIT not too worried about peak power as 99% of driving will be below 4000rpm/50% throttle. plus the 195kw motor should be a vast improvement over the stock 3.9L I6 which pumps out a massive 75kw when new. the current 40 year old smoky engine which is down on compression would be lucky to put out 50kw... not great in a 2.4T 4WD with 33" or 35" tyres.

That's fine as long as you're happy. That's where majority of the gains are though.
Are these motors 195 factory or you're fitting the 195 cam as part of the rebuild?

factory 195 engines.

The question is, what is involved in changing the tune? Doesnt seem to be many people doing the older 304 stuff and i dont want to pay ~$1000 for a small increase in power. As said, its almost tripling the power compared to the standard engine so should be more than enough. Mostly i wanted the 304 V8 for the engine note (I did toy with the idea of going LS1, but i the 304 is easier to fit and apparently a bit better at very low rpm (Eg 750rpm-1500rpm).

Continued in your thread linked above. This has got a little off topic.
Mod's feel free to tidy this up.

bluetops are factory for 5.7L the 973 are factory for 5.0L and VS V6. You could replace the 973 with the 777 from VT/VX/VY N/A just make up sets of 8.

Thanks mate,

Would that require a change in the tune though?

Blue tops would need a change of some settings but they're not needed.

But what if i swap to the 777 injectors instead of the factory 973?

I gather the 777s have a better spray pattern (and are easier to source). I dont mind changing the tune if its something simple i can do myself, but dont want to have to pay someone big dollars to do a whole new tune.

Im guessing it might be simple to change the value in the tune?

Also, are the 777 physically the same size as 973? Or does it require a change in fuel rail?

Thanks

They will be the same physical size. From memory it's a spray pattern change.
So long as the flow rate is the same. Will be best to double check it but from what "The1" has said I take it it's a straight swap. He knows his injectors.
