thats not a bad idea, if you can find a suitable spot on a gearbox that mounts it in line with a gear like that it would be similar to the abs wheel sensor im trying to setup ....

i had a look at a spare gearbox. one of the gears is splined to the output shaft. the problem is it slides a long way. would it matter if it didn't have a speed sensor in 1st gear ? it's like 7:1 or something so i don't use it much.

main thing is so that the pcm knows the car is moving when you are down shifting and so it doesnt try and use the IAC for idle control between gears. I dont think you'd be shifting from 2->1 while moving normally so I dont think it would be a problem? Interested to hear others opinions though.

yeah and the only time you'd probably want to go 2 -> 1 would probably but before it would stall anyways

i've also been mucking about with the fuel system. scored an a/c accumulator from an au falcon. opened it up and gutted it. now modding it for a swirl pot. i'll fill it with the fuel pump on the engine. and mount it in the engine bay somewhere. pics to come.

after looking around and thinking about it i scored a vn vss from the graveyard. it screwed straight onto the gearbox ! yay ! now to do something about a speedo. so my 4.1 diff gears, 2.4m rollout tyres and 4ppr speed sensor gives me- (1000/2.4)x4.1x4 = 6833. if i don't run it through the stock speedo, do i just put in this figure for ppk ?

another question, the oxygen sensor ended up a long way back. could i tap into its wiring for power and earth ? or would using its earth make the oxygen sensor read inaccurately ? or is the earth just for the heater in the oxy sensor ?

There are basically two earths in a factory loom, one has all the high current stuff and the other the oxy sensor so need to be careful what you attach where in the loom. If its a 4 wire sensor could tap off the heater earth and power and it should be fine for the VSS.
