LC1 Wideband

I finally bought a Innovate LC-1 wideband controller. I installed it today and started logging with TP5 and it was indicating my motor is lean at idle, I adjusted the injector constant untill it was indicating a mixture around 14 but to me it seems to be running alot richer than the LC-1 is indicating, smells very fuely and after running for a minute or so in the shed my eyes where stinging. I followed the instructions for the heater and free air calibration so I think it set up right. the sensor bung is quite long (about 15mm) so im thinking the sensor is not in the pipe far enough would that cause it to read lean?

Got much of a cam in the motor? Heaps of overlap can make the idle AFR appear very wrong as its an oxygen sensor not a fuel sensor. Whats the narrowband sensor doing at the same time??

Pretty sure it has stock cam's. The motor is a Toyota 16V 4age. I took the narrowband out to have a play with the wideband, maybe Ii should weld in a second bung! I havn't logged it under any load yet just trying to get a base tune as a starting point thought id start with idle.

Ah ok, stock cam wont dilute it that much. Any exhaust leaks? Full exhaust installed, the sensor is not really close to the end of the pipe is it?

No it hasn't got a full exhuast, the motor is in a offroad buggy, extractors to a short pipe and hotdog muffler on the end, the oxygen sensor is just before the hotdog would that effect the reading?

12p does ship with defaults matching the innovate gear, but check the 0v and 5v AFRs are configured the same in both devices.

If its quite close to the exhaust exit that could be it, I made a tail pipe clamp extension for mine but never managed to get a decent reading with it - always read far too lean

It's about a meter from the tip, there is an exhaust leak at the slip joint just before the sensor I will try to seal it up a bit better and try again. Im thinking I might even install another bung before the slip joint I assume it wouldn't matter if there's a leak after the sensor. would it matter if the sensor is before the Y piece ie only getting exhaust from 2 cylinders? here's a pic of what im dealing with.ImageImage

mmmmmmmmm a bit off topic but if that engine is in a north south configuration, what sort of a gearbox are you using to get drive axles to go east west so close to the engine?

Gearbox is a VW Kombi fitted with Albin's close ratio gearset and superdiff. I'll post some more pic's in members rides.
