VS tune onto VR memcal ECU

Post by krusty »

A mate bought a built and cammed VS 5L and T5 with a tuned 16206035 VS ECU. It's now in a VR that was originally a VR V6.

Can I simply transfer the adjusted parameters over from the VS tune to the VR Memcal and disable VATS to make it run fine?

Well if your talking $12P, you could leave vats on and select VR, so that vats works normally, but yeah sounds about right.

Just after a bit of guidance here. The attached bin came from an AM27C256 memcal that has been added to a non knock filter VSV8 manual memcal. It was fitted and running in a BWFW 16206305 ECM.

I've pulled the tune with my MemprogL and can clearly see it from 0000- 7FFF but it must have some kind of security on it because Tunerpro won't recognize it.

The purpose of opening it is simply to transfer the values to a VR$12POSE tune so that it can run in a VR V8 (engine has been transplanted from VS into what was previously a VR V6 stato).

Any help is appreciated as my mate is driving this car with a stock VR tune on this built engine that is also cammed.

If the memcal has a security chip you can sometimes read it through the ALDL data interface using the flashtool and doing a get bin.

Well I've again read it and verified it in the reader buffer prior to saving it. I then saved a screen shot of the buffer, erased it, then reopened it from the save and compared the saved bin to the screen shot of the original read. Matched up perfectly. I've then saved the bin to a usb and inserted it on my tuning laptop that I use TPRT on. Same thing again! It will not open.

I'm sort of relying on you more experienced guys to show me something here as I just don't get it. There must be a security of sorts in the bin that prevents it from being recognized unless there is a specific "handshake" at loading.

I don't see it as breaking any copyright by opening the bin as I'm only transferring it to VR software to make it usable for the owner that has paid good money for it.

It had a Green Fueltronics sticker on it and the ecu it was in had what I assume was a customers name "Barry H" on the outside.
