vl turbo with na computer questions

Ok what i am curious about is how to run a na computer with the turbo motor.
I am lead to believe they are pretty much the same except for the knock board is this true ?
I have the xdf etc but wouldn't know where to start to turn knock off in the tune.

I think you can burn the turbo tune to a chip and install it and your ok. I reckon you could do the knock fix with a hardware hack, drop a couple of ohm resistor or a pot in there and see if its flashing the OK code and see if it feels like its puling ok.

nah the knock in the turbo computer is all hardware based so you dont need to turn it off in the tune. just take the turbo bin, burn it to an e(e)prom and throw it in your socketed n/a computer. in your hand is now 100% identical in operation to a turbo computer apart from no knock control.

Thats interesting because a mate of mine has a vl turbo and he had a bad connection on the knock sensor and it did false trigger and kill the power output. I guess the fact it was a bad connection moving rather than none must have been causing a false trigger in his case. He redid the connection in question and it sorted his issues out.

vl turbo knock sensing has a dc bias voltage that its monitoring.knock sensor about 500k ohms off memory.if u have a bad connection to knock sensor the ohms will vary and so will the bias voltage and i think it then retards the timing by a certain amount.ive tuned a na 3l vl engine that was turboed and we just run the na computer no knock sensing and loaded half na advance map half turbo advance map the turbo advance map has too much advance before boost because of the compression ratio difference between the engines.loaded the turbo afr map and changed the k value to suit the higher flow injectors we were running.also had to change tp and ttp values.used tunerpro rt with moates emulator.used techedge wideband to check afrs.just have to remember with no knock sensing be fairly conservative with timing advance.

Do you have a bin i can use to compare differences or do i just make changes in the rpm and afr areas where boost starts to comes on.
My mate has just done his and they have installed rising rate pressure reg and told him it's all good lol.

yea mate.is the engine factory turboed or na and turbo has been fitted.ill assume its an na engine that a turbo has been fitted.this bin tune vl3l turbo man brock.bin was 3l na that was turboed.na computer no knock sensor standard vl turbo about 10 psi boost decent front mount intercooler 440 cc/min injectors manual gearbox.ill post up an xdf i use to look at the basics.problems with rising rate reg is fueling might not be right through rev range and cant alter timing map lol.best way to do it if you want to use hose tail injectors is vl turbo injectors 260cc/min .factory vl na injectors 220cc/min.and just use standard fuel pressure regulator.then you alter calibration to suit change tp.ttp max.injector k value. advance map etc to suit.make sure you use 98 octane fuel.ill post up a standard vl turbo man bin.if you use the vl turbo injectors 260's use the vl 3l turbo man (3tm).bin and copy the timing map from vl3l turbo man brock.bin over to it.ive reworked the advance map vl3l turbo man brock.bin to make it safer to start with.just make sure base timing is 15 degrees.compression ratio na engine 9.5 to 1 turbo engine 8.5 to 1.cheers darren.

Thanks for the help will have a look through it is n/a with turbo fitted turbo injectors etc
